Sorry I did mean from Hua Hin but you're quite right; I got it round the wrong way. Minibus is approx 2 hours from Hua Hin to NKP; 45 Mins from BKK to NKP

In which case you can get a minivan to NKP which takes 45 minutes, as opposed to the three or more hours your likely to spend on the train.

That sounds like a faulty drive trying to take too much power from the computer, or a damaged USB port on the computer. External DVD drives are a standard commodity and compatible with all USB enabled PCs & Macs.
