Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
At what price though? Government subsidies in China are "significant" to say the least and then you have the import duties in Thailand. I understand BYD are planning on building a plant in Thailand, but assume it hasn't happened yet. Import duties are waived on EVs into Thailand, from Chi...

Re: Songkran to become 1 month festival
Im a bit confused about the extended songkran. As people still have to work, I am assuming the vast majority of Thai's will carry on as normal. A few days off, local noodle shops close, travel home and back again and then back to work. Local noodle shops re-open. So it will, for the majority, be all...

Re: Flights to/from Thailand status, news, and updates
The flight to Bkk from Gatwick seems a downgrade from previous daily flights from LHR to Bkk. Instead, daily flights to KL will fly from LHR. Thats quite a change from before. I wonder what's behind that decision?

Re: Premier League 2023-24
It seems that everyone and their dog has an opinion about the referee re-starting the game with the Liverpool keeper, and if retired refs and pundits can't agree, I'll steer well clear of that. But if it should have gone to Forest, then the sequence of events that led to the goal, simply wouldn't ha...

Re: Bolt ride hailing app
but a little bit more than regular taxis in BKK, but you're paying for the convenience of the pickup and no hassle with haggling with the driver who probably doesn't want to go where you do which is often the case. As stated, I agree about the convenience of not having to find a cab and happy to pa...

Re: Bolt ride hailing app
Pay more for grab/bolt than a regular taxi? Really?! I took several Bolts in Bkk recently (bikes mostly) and they were cheap as chips. And cheaper than HH too. I went 6km across central Bkk for 50 baht. That would be more in Hua Hin Yes, pay more for using Grab taxi's in Bkk, compared to the cost o...

Re: Traffic jams on Rama II Road blamed for Hua Hin's decline
^ Thanks for that. :thumb: I've never tried it but it's always nice to have an alternative route where one can drive relaxed a bit. How much time does it add to the journey on the southbound trip? Depends on how often you stop! If not at all, maybe about an extra 45 minutes? I have never t...

Re: Bolt ride hailing app
I don't think the Hua Hin taxi/tuk tuk drivers can complain when they're blatantly preying on and ripping off tourists (as they have always done). Bolt and Grab have put them in their place by threatening their cash cow which is a good thing for the consumer IMO. Likewise in Bangkok, how many times...

Re: Traffic jams on Rama II Road blamed for Hua Hin's decline
....... If I turn off for the scenic route past Samut Songkhram, then that obviously is a more relaxed drive and slower. Can you put up a link for a map of that route? :thumb:  I think it's known to most, but this should work, from Highway 35 by the PTT garage where the turn off is. It's a ...

Re: Traffic jams on Rama II Road blamed for Hua Hin's decline
Have you done the journey after around 9pm recently? If my theory is right, that is when the main carriageways are closed, and it becomes Hell, from Bangkok until just before Samut Songkhram. I've departed central Bangkok at around 9pm, and my satnav shows under 3 hours travel, but the carriageway ...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
The report says the development is on a brownfield site, meaning it already has buidlings on it and has been used in industry of some sort, so it is ideal and probably already has good transport links.

Re: Traffic jams on Rama II Road blamed for Hua Hin's decline
If I now take more than 3.5 hours in either direction, I regard that as bad. So for me, the road is better now. The sticking point in either direction is the turning to highway 9, once past that, it's okay and coming out of Bkk, there are now 4 lanes open for a good while, which helps disperse traff...
