Re: Good Barber / Hairdresser

Today, I tried the Bluport barbers shop in the basement (as recommended by caller). Two barbers at work, waited about 2 minutes. Got a good haircut for 120 baht. He used electric clippers on side and back - seemed to have about 4 different sizes charged ready on one side. Then he cut the top with sc...

Re: Free Bus Transfer Between Suvarnabhumi – Don Muaeng

I note BB’s comment above about the “hideous taxi queue at Don Muaeng”. I took a Sombat bus from the bus station at Hua Hin (Soi 96) to Chit Mo BTS, and then took a metered taxi to Don Muaeng. There was an enormous taxi queue waiting to unload at Don Muaeng, luckily I had only hand luggage so I was ...

Re: Tax Residency (bank requirements)

My last post above - just remembered that I was to give authority to E and Y to pass all my "information" to my wife if she requested it, if I remember correctly - even if we were divorced. Looks like that is the future - all your "information" will be out there for access by all...

Re: Tax Residency (bank requirements)

Think you need a non USA bank. But even having a non US bank can mean that you have to sign an annual declaration that you are not a citizen of USA (and a few other things that I forget). The USA can put pressure on foreign banks to check out their customers even those totally unconnected with USA. ...

Re: Tax Residency (bank requirements)

My take on this TIN is. The future is the future though this is now, if you are an expat living in Thailand and are resident here and also only send living expenses to support yourself there is no TIN required. Just fill out the form from whichever bank asks you to fill in their form stating this. ...

Re: Tax Residency (bank requirements)

I have just returned from the Hua Hin Revenue office, where I had a very informative discussion and was advised the following: You only need a Thai TIN if you have a business, work in Thailand or earn a taxable income in Thailand by any other means. If you do not earn a taxable income you do not ne...

Re: Locations that serve a "good" Amercian / English breakfast.

German restaurant in Petchkasem Road - between Bluport and bus station at soi 96.
The various breads are very good - better than two other German restaurants I've tried.
Bacon has taste - does not just look like bacon.

Re: New pedestrian overpass for Market Village

Tried the bridge today. Good to see the risers are not too high - makes it easy to walk up. At the top, the bridge walkway is wide – pleasantly curved and easy to walk over. I did see the increased riser height problem at ground level (east side) – attempted fix by adding a concrete ground slab, but...

Re: Good Barber / Hairdresser

Previously, I've had good haircuts with Malay barbers (in Singapore and Malaysia), but struggle to find the right cut here. Also, good cuts with ‘Arab barbers’ in the Arab world – if you like short hair. I tried a lady hairdresser in Soi 94 – not good – confirmed my long held belief that woman are n...

Electric kettle in hotel rooms?

Anybody know why some hotels in Thailand do not supply an in-room electric kettle? I mean there is a flat screen TV but no electric kettle. I carry a small one in my luggage, but don't really need that sort of excess baggage in a small suitcase. (Years ago, I used to carry a small electric spiral el...

Re: Tax Residency (bank requirements)

Thanks for the info, I will apply for a Thai TIN. Success may depend on where you apply. I have read in another forum that tax authorities (e.g. Pattaya) will not issue a Thai TIN unless you have local income. My comment earlier in this thread: "What is interesting for me - after reading on the...

GroveHillWanderer - many thanks for that update.

I think I'll try that but I'll wait for the baht to weaken a bit.

Re: Tax Residency (bank requirements)

I have bank accounts in 3 different banks, in 3 different countries. One of them is Westpac Bank, Australia. Yesterday, I received a message alert from Westpac: “Important information about your foreign tax residency status. If you are a foreign tax resident you will be asked to: - Provide the count...

Re: Vietnam Visa

I booked flights in and out of Vietnam a few weeks ago. At that time, the Embassy website said 'visa free entry for 15 days' expires on 13 June 2018 (for British passport holders). Got a feeling that it was like something that was done annually, so may be it will get extended for another year. Just ...
