Re: Why do expats who can't speak Thai resent those that can
Got drawn in by the allure of the title... ..... but the thread is a bit 'preachy'. Mmmm. And filled with quite a few assumptions. Hell to the muthafrakin no! You're American, aren't you? I mean this to be constructive, I hope it's taken that way and doesn't start a flame war. จริงใจ - cing jai = si...

Re: Crash involving two schoolgirls aged 16
Mat, the Por Ror Bor dates coinciding with road tax dates are also for cars. The only insurance I have to check the expiry dates on are for my comprehensive insurance package.

Re: Dirty municipal water
Calguy I've been here more than twenty years and am based in Bangkok. It doesn't matter where you are, you will face similar problems throughout the country, just grin and bear it. Re water cuts/ shortages... ( a few anecdotes from my time around the country) 1. My wife's mother's place way up past ...

Re: Crash involving two schoolgirls aged 16
Pleng is correct in saying that the Por Ror Bor (compulsory insurance) will only cover third party medical expenses. Any other insurance is over and above this if you want additional coverage (including 3rd party). The Por Ror Bor is actually seperate from the road tax, just that the law has changed...

Re: Dirty municipal water
It's usually due to maintenance of the water mains somewhere further down the line. If they have to break and replace pipes, there's bound to be some earth (due to the digging) that will get into the system. It usually clears up not long after said work is finished.

Re: Which Pick-Up Truck?
As long as I can put the key in, turn it and the engine starts I'll be quite happy. If I then put it into gear and it moves forwards and backwards, what will I need a manual for? Surely, a car is a car. I've never read a manual in over 30 years of accident free driving - is this car going to be tha...

Re: Wanted: Galaxy S2
SJ I'm also considering jumping from a Nokia smartphone to the S2 (i.e. Symbian to Android) as I'm getting fed up of the limited RAM and the inability to open certain email attachments. A friend has the S3 (nice!) but I would probably only consider the S2 at the moment due to the size of the thing. ...

Re: Crash involving two schoolgirls aged 16
Should've stayed on your side of the road. (I know, I know...) I assume your Thai friend was pillion so it is assumed will side with you (whether right or wrong). As to the police adding two and two to get five, unfortunately the accident *did* happen on *their* side of the road so even though the r...
Re: Red plate
Red plates are dealership plates. It allows the dealership to transport vehicles temporarily (i.e. from port to dealer, main dealer to branch - you get the idea.) The department of transportation only issue a certain number of these plates to each dealer, so said dealer can really only have as many ...

Re: Seeking engineers, can you help?
Av8er... Welcome to Thailand. What may seem to be black and white will turn out to be various shades of grey. Note that any flying done in the kingdom is daylight only, i.e. 6 am to 6 pm. No flying outside of these hours except police or military flights. All flying is VFR. You can only fly to desig...

Cookie, while it may appear that the BIB (Boys In Brown) may have been taking the p*$$, it may have been technically correct. If that was the case, why didn't the English gentleman get out of the driver's seat, let his girlfriend take over, and just drive off? :-| It would have saved the hassle of t...

The museum shut down? Sad.
Av8er,
You can always join a club, though I have not been to Bangphra airfield for a while. A friend's son did his ppl there years ago.

Re: Seeking engineers, can you help?
Errr... I understand from your zeal and your avatar name you're pretty keen on flying, but when I said amphib, I meant amphibious vehicle as in you can drive it on the road and also into a river/ sea without any problems. The two amphibs you're looking at are amphibous aircraft ... Barry, something ...

Re: Seeking engineers, can you help?
You'll have a problem getting that thing licensed here, let alone get permission to fly. Why not get involved in something a bit closer to the ground, say an amphib? There are some interesting sites on the net and it could generate quite a bit of interest seeing as the next major floods are possibly...

Re: Electrical Supplies to Development
Yup, big red flag. I guess the development must be quite far in the boondocks for there not to be any convenient electricity supply.
Next thing you know, the developer will be asking if an access road to the property can be built at your cost.
Kidding.
