Re: being stuck with the cleaner who comes with the house
You dodged a bullet on this one! Be thankful you found out who your potential landlord really was before you committed to a relationship.

Re: How will my move from Chiang Mai to Hua Hin effect my retirement visa process
Chiang Mai immigration is a nightmare. One of the worst in the country. So I understand why you think you need an agent. However, HH immigration is one of the best in the country. Relaxed and reasonable officers, with a much smaller crowd of applicants. You can do it all by yourself without an agent...

Re: Any basketball players in Hua Hin or anywhere to play?
Most active are the basketball courts in Wittaya school between market village and the turn to soi 88. They even have covered courts. Players start to show up around 4:30-5:00 in the afternoon. Had some good games there. Unfortunately there's no lighting, so not much play time.

Lazada has melatonin products, some reputable. I ordered 365 pills (3mg) for around 600 baht last year.

Re: Best bank to use
I have a bunch of accounts in different banks here and the best fees wise has been TMB. It must be the most reasonable bank in Thailand. I'm using it almost exclusively now. One of my pet peeves here has been the habit of banks to charge around 15-25 baht per withdrawal if you happen to be outside o...

Re: Most practical and least expensive way to transfer large funds to Thailand?
I transfer from my Schwab USA brokerage and checking acct directly into my Bkk Bank acct right here in HH. $25 flat fee no matter the amount. You can set up ACH to Bangkok bank NY branch and then your Schwab fee will be a big fat $0. You'll only need to pay the usual incoming wire fee in Bangkok ba...

Re: Tax residency in Thailand
There's also a hard to enforce stipulation on dividends. They must not be remitted to Thailand in the calendar year they were received. Otherwise they are subject to taxation. I've never heard of this enforced, but I know some extra careful people who keep dividends in a separate account until they ...

Re: ็็้็็็้Most practical and least expensive way to transfer large funds to Thailand?
Wire fee $40 US plus whatever the exchange rate is at that time. I always transfer in USD not baht, that way the exchange is done on this end, which is usually less. You can save a lot of money by either using ACH transfers to Bangkok bank NYC (will save you at least the $40, as most banks don't ch...

Re: Tax Residency (bank requirements)
How do I join a credit union in the U.S. when I live here? I'll check into the SS site. Well, first things first - if you want ALL of the income from SS to arrive directly in Thailand then there's a nice hack you can use. You can open an account with Bangkok Bank here and provide SS with the ACH de...

Re: Tax Residency (bank requirements)
I wanted to do that but Social Security won't let me change banks via email. I need to physically go to an SS office and fill out the paper work and I'm not about to fly to the U.S. just to do that. I imagine that the next bank would be the same. You can change SS direct deposit online, using their...

Re: Driving in Laos,Cambodia and Burma
Tinted windows hasn't been a problem in Laos or Cambodia for me. It is a problem when crossing to Malaysia though. The border folks even have a device to check the tint level and are known to force drivers to peel off tint films that go over a certain threshold.

Re: Living in Phuket ?
Pretty silly to come to a site called hua hin forum to ask about Phuket... There are much better places for your question, which we are forbidden from mentioning here for some ridiculous reason (since hhf is as much a "competitor" of these as a horse buggy is a competitor of Toyota).

Re: I think I need a border run?
If (as suggested by hhinner) you apply for a second 30-day extension, have it refused and are given 7 days to leave the country you don't get a 'black mark' against your name as it will have been done within the rules, as far as I understand it. You do get a big "extension refused" stamp ...
