Re: Doomsday List

Thanks for posting this, BB. I'm willing to do at least part of the research for US citizens if no one else wants to. One personal matter is to leave contact information for friends you would like to be informed of your death - phone number, email, or Skype address - something, written down where yo...

Re: An interesting bug

Thanks, Steve. That doesn't look exactly the same, but closer than anything else I could find, and with 1350 species, there's certainly room for variation. In the numbers I'm seeing, they hardly look like a nuisance. I noticed a number of small, white butterflies or moths in the front yard recently....

An interesting bug

This is an interesting little bug, the fourth one I've seen lately. In the picture, you can see it stretching out at the top - it looks like some sort of small caterpillar or worm. It's maybe 3/4 inch long by 3/8 inch wide except for the outlying strand to the right. When resting, it hangs on to a s...

Re: When was your last time outside Thailand?

My last arrival stamp is about March 20, 2013. I go back to the US for about two weeks almost every year. I skipped 2011 - the only year I've skipped since I moved here in 2007. I may skip 2014, but two years is about as long as I want to go between trips home, so I'll go in 2015. I enjoy seeing fri...

Re: Charcoal BBQ.

I was a bit disappointed with with the quality of the charcoal BBQ's on offer, so I built my own. Got some trays made up at a local fabricating shop but had to buy the cast iron grill tops from Bangkok (not cheap.) All in all it cost about 10,000 baht. That's nice. Sort of what I plan to do when I ...

Re: I want STEAK!!!

We tried Papa John's late this afternoon. The food was certainly comparable to that at the much missed Natta, though more expensive. Nice steak cooked correctly, nice potatoes, perhaps a touch light on the steamed veggies, but altogether a good meal.

Sargeant Passed Away Last Night

Sargeant's wife called this morning to tell me that Sargeant passed away last night. I don't have any details beyond that and they're not important. Either sand_dancer or I will post details about services at the temple. Many here knew Sarge only by his inimitable posting style and refusal to back d...

Re: Hello from newbie with big plans

Some Jehova's Witnesses came by yesterday. Pulled up and stopped the truck directly in front of sargeant's house. They only wanted to talk to him and me. As it turns out they go through neighborhoods searching out farangs, asking local Thais where farangs live and such. They were nice enough and not...

Re: Hello from newbie with big plans

mwbrown: Hua Hin is certainly a good place to start in Thailand, even if you ultimately move elsewhere. It's quite touristy, but that means you'll have access to plenty of restaurants, shopping, and other expats while you get your bearings. Richard: Sargent was rather specific about Pranburi City. I...
