Check the use by dates for things purchased at other outlets. I found that my eye drops for daily use was 1 year out of date!

There are also devices to detect those cards with RFID chips in them incl. exp dates . Sometimes a scrawled signature for those debit/credit cards will suffice for a 1 off scam.
