Hope to move to Hua Hin shortly

Post by janeria »

Hi Guys - I have kept abreast of the threads on the forum for some months now and am grateful to all wisdom, expertise and wit contributed by you all.

We are hoping to move to Hua Hin from the UK in the next few months (will be applying for the retirement visas when we arrive and looking to buy property in due course). I am sure you have been asked this question on countless occasions but is there anything that I should be looking to take (no matter how trivial or small) which is difficult to obtain in Thailand ?

Many thanks in ancipation of your responses !

It's a very difficult question to answer Janeria.
You will be able to obtain almost everything in Bangkok, but unfortunately not the same assortment in Hua Hin.
Things and gear that is specific for UK will often be a problem to purchase here.
The only way to find out is to move here and find out for yourself I'm afraid.
Then ask visitors and friends to bring the items.
You will later find out that you are able to buy that particularly item in Bangkok, but it's often very difficult to find that shop.
Yellow pages where are you?
I intend to live forever - so far so good.

If you want a retirement Visa you've got to come with a Non - Immigration O Visa.

If you like liquorice bring plenty. Canned guiness is good to bring too. Oxo cubes are dear here.

Thanks for your comments, much appreciated. It seems to me that if in doubt and it is an item I really cannot do without bring it with me (female logic) and it would seem including oxo cubes, can of guiness and anything else I can think of! Thanks also for the advice on the visa but we were aware of that and are applying shortly to the Consul in Hull. Hoping to make the final move in May. I had heard from a third party some months ago that there was some talk about extending leases to 99 years or so but have not seen anything in the Bangkok Post, although I could well have missed it. Is there any further news on this ?

Thanks - you have confirmed what I thought to be the case, although as I said somebody did mention to me that they thought the Government were going to introduce longer leases in February. It seems that has not happened then - sit tight and wait and see!
