Hi deepdown, that's an awful thing to happen - I really do hope the scum get caught quickly.

And I do admire the restraint of your last post!

Hi Deepdown thank you for the heads up on here we have some very good friends who live in soi 6, Richard Tan and there little girl, I will send them a message on Face book as they don't read the forum.
I hope these criminals are caught and I do understand your angry I think most people would feel the same.
Would it be worth keeping an emergency mobile phone hidden in the house?
Best wishes.

Thanks for raising the alarm deepee. Sorry to hear you've been a victim.

This is clearly a worry. I'm moving shortly and thinking I would be better off living in a development rather than a more isolated house. Are the problems only in Soi 6 area? I know there were problems in Soi 56. Anywhere else?

I would be wary of having weapons by the bed. These guys are probably younger, quicker, tougher and might beat you to death with your own dentures, rather than just tie you up, if they feel threatened. Maybe put a lock on your bedroom door, and keep the mobile handy. I've stopped sleeping naked.

Except for the odd one, I've always found ex-military men to be great guys. The man who was shot with 6 bullets, was an ex-Vietnam Vet. Unfortunately, bullets don't care.

What security is effective? Dogs get poisoned. If robbers wear helmets, video cameras are useless. The house being occupied didn't deter this particular robbery, which does sound unusual. I guess if you have all 3, the house next door may be more attractive. However, some might think, the greater security you have, the more you must be trying to protect!

I don't even know what number to call even if I was being robbed. Anyone?

Not really sure if it is relevent.
But in my considerable experience with the type of people who do these type of things.
Generally if they can see they are heading toward hassles, they pick another softer option as their victim.
Of course there are always the exceptions to prove the rule.
And the likely lack of any prompt response by the polise, only encourages criminals to be more brazen.
I just trust no one neds to be killed, before the supposed authorities here take these things seriously.

Sorry to hear that deepdown,
I have been lucky at this point, but as said above the big water thing seems to make drama. And no things are NOT just soi 6, it is everywhere. Whoever is doing all this are cowards, they do not attack directly unless you are a female. I actuelly are waiting for them to break in, these bastards need a lesson. Please everyone be super carefull at the moment. A lot of things are not even reported, the cops turned up next door and said oh well nothing stolen, don't worry. They did not even print the place, becouse of this excuse.

Hi Kendo thanks for your imput. Not sure if Emergency phone would help as we had 1 in the house and they found that and took it,also if they tie you up then you cannot get to it.I think the best security is having the perimeter of your property protected with Infa red security fence ,which is getting Installed at my place in the next few days !!

Depending of course IF one wants to be living in a bunker.

But one should take a somewhat military approach to security of ones home, and layer their defences, with all covered hopefully by cameras which are fairly cheap now days. There are even security software packages, which have motion sensors etc. and download any video taken not only to your computor (which may be stolen) but also to a web site for latter retrieval.

Firstly concealed medium range cameras of approaches, to hopefully get registration numbers of vehicles, or scooters; or face pics of the dummies before they put on full face helmets etc. These also are effective to identify people caseing you place, ie watching your departures and arrival times etc.

Next physical barriers such as bars on windows, and security doors/gates etc. to funnel potential hostiles toward the seemingly easiest entry point.
In addition no one should ever get beyond the street, unless identified and allowed; meaning anyone not identified in the yard is a hostile.

Lastly secure your main bedroom with a solid, or steel door, to make it a sort of short term safe room. Also have friends on speed dial for any occurances whom you know you can rely on for fairly rapid responce.

However despite all precautions, shit happens as they say, and possesions can be replaced, and insured; people cannot.
So personal safety comes first, if not for oneself, then for loved ones at least.

But in the end it all comes down to personal awareness of risk; as all the precautions under the sun , are useless if you do not use them wisely. Even having pepper sspray/stun gun/ or a pistol; is no good if it is not in your hand at the time.

Cheers Allan

kendo wrote:Jimmy the crime rate will allways escalate before and after songkran be on your gard also canvass your local area and encourage foke to have cameras at the ready also consider getting personal protection items such as a stun gun and pepper spray if I lived anywhere full time in Thailand I would have a few of these to hand and I would think about CCTV.
Maybe Super Joe could advise on the latter.

Kendo. :guns:
+1.
Go to the police station and get pepper spray from them. They sell it, or used to...

How did they break in? With those kind of valuables hanging around I assume you have a decent peice of security kit?

How long have you been with your wife may I ask?

Hope everything works out for you but please ,if only for my sake (but I know others would appreciate it also) could we not add..
I am Ex-Royal Marine from UK,so harming them would cause me no lack of sleep whatsoever.
Nobody cares if you are Ex-Royal Marine and it sure as hell doesn't make you powerful here. Stinks of the Pattaya guys screaming how they are ex-SAS and does you no favours. Just a word of advice.
1. Been with my Wife for many years,it sounds to me like you are trying to Insinuate she may have had something to do with it !

2.I have been here for 12yrs and I 'Sure as hell' have never tried to make out to be powerful .

3. Just a word of Advice , if only for my sake ,(but I know others would appreciate it also)don't bother giving your advice !Last thing I need is someone trying to be smart at a time like this.

4.Some people care!

Have a nice day :tsk:

Deepdown sorry for you lose and I hope they get caught soon.

Just ignore the Dork, he takes great delight in what he sees as subtle offensive remarks.

Large siren that flashes constantly is the best deterrent. Anyone know if a house with a siren like this has been targeted?

Deepdown

That was terrible but at least you as a family are still alive and kicking

I am constantly being told as a farang (not a rich one) both in the village in Khon Kaen and HH that I'm a target.

I let my guard down once and got macheted but survived.

I'm lucky because in the north east I have family to protect me and in HH many Thai friends who monitor my every move. Annoying, but safe I've even been told by Thai friends that I'm being watched and advised not to go out alone. Sounds a bit crazy Eh! but it's reality. Black belt, SAS or marine don't count with a Thai gang

No amount of security devices are going to protect you if you are a prime target and Thais are getting increasingly desperate for money as the building work slows down and the perceived rich farangs are arriving in abundance.

Where about in soi 6 do you stay? I've lived here for about five years now and never had a problem, but then again, I don't stay in a development, which I feel, does make a difference. You don't stay in Natural Hill by any chancy do you?

When we first moved up this way, we had no neighbors, no street lights - just pitch black darkness at night, and still no hassles at all. Even now, when the area has seen an influx of workers, I still feel safe and would gladly walk about at night. As for our property - I guess the average Thai criminal would more than likely assume the place is a Thai house, rather than a Farang/Thai place. Then, if they did decide to try their luck, they have two big dogs to worry about, and as there is no outside lighting on at night once most have gone to bed, they'd more than like bump into me sitting in the dark, at which point they'd become very close friends of a secondhand No.6 iron....lol

Jokes aside......take care mate, but like I said, we've never had any trouble since we've moved up this way. :thumb:
