Boat for Billy

Post by margaretcarnes »

As some of you will know I've fetched Billys' ashes back to HuaHin to scatter at sea.
Now have a provisional date for this - Sunday 11th (please note this IS provisional) out of Praknampran.

It is hoped that close friends will be able to come along on the boat at about 4.30 pm - but there is a need to know numbers in advance so that I can arrange for an appropriate sized boat!
We won't be going far offshore and shouldn't be out there too long.
If anyone is a difinite for that day can you please pm me as soon as poss? Thanks, Mags

The provisional date was just that - OK no problem - the boat is OK for the 12th - next Monday. Same time same place.

Well we (5 of us) bid Billy 'Bon Voyage' on a choppy gulf of Thailand.

Barry of Mermaid Cruises kindly provided us with a boat and crew for the trip despite the choppy seas.

A few pics attached of the auspicious occasion

Well it was strange day in some respects...
Mags brought Billy to the bar..So he had his last visit to Bintabaat.
She had a photo of him taken many years before, & she never knew who took the picture..?
(It was in fact ME..about 10yrs ago!).
Barry had the boat primed & ready for us, so off we set.. "Oo what alot of fishing boats".. commented I (Later the answer was clear..all boats moored-up cos of rough sea!)
The crew knew this, and once out of the estuary we were bobbing well..they duly turned the boat so we were out of the wind..at that point we toasted our 'guest of honor' and poured him overboard..once he was happyily floating we dowsed him with Beer Chang, toasted him again, & we all agreed the 'Gulf of Thailand' was a fair 'resting' place for our dear Billy.

We all remember him differently.. I'm only here in HH today because I DID NOT take his advice..555!

R.I.P. BILLY, Bless you Mags.

Sorry I couldn't make it, good to see he had a decent departure.

I'll never forget Billy kicking my arse at chess in the old Hare & Hounds down Soi Kanjanomai.

So long old pal.

Many thanks to Barry and his crew for the 'window of opportunity' to get a boat out there. We really couldn't have done it without such professional help.
And thanks Richard for posting the pics, and US for the lift. Must admit I was beginning to think 'can't take him home again godammit!'
