A bit off topic, but apparently a Big C is opening in Hua-Hin/Cha-Am. I can'r remember where, but a friend of mine told me he read about it in the news, and when I asked my wife, she said yes, Big C are opening a place here soon.
No interest to me since I have Makro down the road - no parking problems, no traffic problems, and never a queue.

It might be if it's as good as the one in Petchaburi. We went in there last week, and found the range of goods/cheaper prices better than anything we've seen in Hua Hin.Takiap wrote:No interest to me since I have Makro down the road - no parking problems, no traffic problems, and never a queue.

Back on topic with the Soi 112/114 Tesco. We went in there today. OK, it's main food, but I don't know if were just fortunate with special offers, but prices for what we bought were considerably cheaper than the Market Village Tesco e.g.
- Nivea Anti-perspirant was 21 Baht cheaper
- Nescafe 400 Grm was 41 Baht cheaper
I would reckon the food range must be almost the same as the big Tesco.

Re: Tesco moving to Soi 112
The Tesco is a good Tesco to do your weekly shopping.
Almost everything is available, but it is smaller. Not as small as a Lotus Express, so big enough to have a good selection. Parking is much better, but the more people that discover it the worse this will get.
There is one reason why I still go to Tesco MV. They have a reasonable selection of cold cuts and bread. This is something I want to take when we go do the main groceries every week.
Other than that, the new Tesco is great.

It's not obligatory that you go to Tescos or Starbucks or MacDonalds or Burger King or KFC or Pizza Company/Hut or 7/11 or Haagen Dazs or Adidas or Nike or Levis or Timberland or any number of stores you are all too familiar with.
There are still plenty of little shops with little old Thai people who really don't speak English at all who sell bags of things marked only in Thai without pictorial assistance on the contents. You may well leave the shop with over 40 years supply of Chinese haemorrhoid suppositories but at least you'll have experienced the culture (and you'll have some sweets to take back home).
I may have lied a little bit earlier on.... 7/11 is pretty much obligatory these days.

Don't get too upset, it can be pretty darn exciting at times. The baked beans are always in a different aisle and the sea food has more exotic names.Brooky wrote:You're telling me, we're flying half way round the world to experience new cultures, cuisine and lifestyles only to shop at TESCO'S!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and there's never any Branston pickles...
This is the way
Re: Tesco moving to Soi 112
There's a large traditional Thai market, Chatchai, in the centre of town as well as many other smaller ones further out where you can buy everything from pigs heads to fried crickets for that authentic Thai shopping experience.Brooky wrote:You're telling me, we're flying half way round the world to experience new cultures, cuisine and lifestyles only to shop at TESCO'S!!!!!!!!!!

Khao sans in Bangkok, get your fisherman's pants and your hair braids and be on your way.
Or if you want to experience the real life style, my GFs mothers farm needs sorting soon, wages are none negotiable, no Aircon, plenty of fans, breakfast not included.
Nearest convenience store only 25 minutes drive via local Taxi/person in Village who can afford a car (Hours=from when he can be arsed until when he can't/is drunk). All services 100% cease at 3pm.
