African's swarming to hua hin?

It's ridiculous really that they have to report that if they (the Africans) are in large enough numbers to create problems in BBK somewhere, and news reports etc to this effect, it obviously means they aren't working/being legally here etc and are a self-made issue. Regardless of the origin of any none-Thai people here, especially if they are in large enough numbers, it's the fault/problem of immigration or the airports/embassies for granting them visas in the first place, even if on arrival.

It's the Thais own fault that these problems exist because their own officials are not enforcing their own laws and regulations until it's too late.

Has the list grown of 'visa on arrival' these days to include every arse-end country on earth or are they holding passports from countries that they are not the origin of? Which, ironically, as an aside, wouldn't surprise me as this has reached endemic and ridiculous proportions.

As for the locals making up their own minds about whether certain nationalities are no good or not welcome......well, up to them......their country and experiences of such individuals or groups of such.

Fair enough, unless someone is going to go all "Cherie Blair" on me.

For me, I'm fairly ambivalent these days as it's gone way beyond the point of reversal almost everywhere.....so whatever really.

Crikey, this fair and wonderful country isn't composed of just Thai and white people, is it?
Africans and Indians are going to be coming here in greater numbers in the future as some of them are pretty rich compared to the tired, economy-bashed farangs these days.
And as far as the "visa on arrival" is concerned, many nationalities have to register at the Imm checkpoint to even be allowed here. Don't ever confuse that with the 30/15 day visa exempt stamp that Imm dole out to to us whiteys.
Get used to it.

There are many Thais who don't like Westerners living here, no matter where we come from of what our backgrounds are. I had a Thai tell me to my face that they didn't like foreigners living in Thailand because we are only here because everything is cheap and because we don't want to pay taxes.


Ironically of course, everything is not always cheaper here, and as far as taxes are concerned........I've paid more taxes in my life than the vast majority of Thais will ever pay, and certainly more more than the non tax paying idiot that made the comment to me.

It is interesting how an inoffensive word can sound so prejudicial. Swarming --it has the image of gangs of people.
I note how British people swarm to bars on sat night to watch Rugby or Football. Swedish people swarm to restaurants that serve Scandinavian food. Golfers swarm to Golf courses. None of those sound unpleasant--but Africans swarm to HH sounds threatening.

LOL, LMFAO, this has been very enlightening; it seems that you must be white, close to being a pedophile to be accepted in Thailand. But what can you do, thank god I don't travel to any parts of the Binta Baht or BKK. And the funny part is the Thais are black and just don't know, LOL. Almost all the food the eat and lackadaisical attitude reminds be friend down south in the U.S. But I have to admit I enjoy watching ALL the white farang who spend their time and money on women who just want their money and when it runs out they (Thais) are out to. because I assumed your use of swarm was used in the context of

to congregate, hover, or occur in groups or multitudes; be exceedingly numerous, as in a place or area. or (of a place) to be thronged or overrun. (taken from Dictionary) . And for me this conjures up an image of something that one dislikes or feels threatened by as opposed to a fun filled gathering of Swedish folk going out to their local scandanavian restuarant.

and because your use of the word 'them' in further describing 'a swarm of Africans' implied to me that you had a dislike to this swarm.

My apologies to you Bill, if you are not racist, (your welcome at No.10 anytime !) and as I can see most of the replies have been humerous and sarcastic which I am sure is meant to only embarrass further those 'few' posters that have either hinted at or being outright racist.

Having come onto the forum to get great info, (answer to farming and police immiditation), I think I have made the classic error of answering a question with my thoughts on an issue that was looking for information. This was the very thing I asked people not to do when I asked my earlier questions on different threads. Would the Moderaters consider having some sections, where only information is posted rather than opinion, and other sections where opinion is welcomed. Or have I lost the run of myself completely, and this is what forums are about. It's just that when you get a really good question its great to have the answer to it close at hand rather than another 10 replies of one-liners, or off-topic remarks etc as well. (all of which this is to this topic by the way - sorry again).

There have been similar threads regarding Russians, and I'm sure if you look back far enough, you'll see similar threads about all nationalities. I've frequently seen derogatory comments regarding the English (I'm not English btw), and yet the English members on here don't jump up in arms calling everyone a racist.


The OP used the word "swarming" because he was quoting something he had read on another site. Yes, I would say that it does suggest a dislike for this particular swarm, but let us not forget that Africans (not all) have given themselves the reputation they now have in Thailand. Added to that is the fat that Thais are generally very racist, even though they do a pretty good job at pretending they aren't.

Just so you know............I myself am an African . I was born there and so were my parents, and their parents. I am VERY proud to be an African, but it does have it's downsides as well. Try passing through certain Thai immigration check points on a passport representing any country on the African continent. Do you have to pull your wallet out and show money? I do, so to hell with mincing words. I'm from the black continent, and based on my lifelong experiences, I can assure you Africans have a bad reputation for a reason.


As I've said in an earlier post, I have had many African friends - white, black, and colored. Call me a racist if you want, but until you go and live in Africa, you REALLY DO NOT have a clue. Don't forget, you're not African just because your skin is black. You're an African if you were born there. Of course not all Africans are bad people, just like not all Thais are greedy, just as not all English are yobs, just as not all Russians are mafia.


Lastly, ask yourself this.......................If the police are trying to drive the Africans out of Bangkok, what is their reason for doing it? Do they have a valid reason, or are they just being racist. If it's because of racism, is it the police, or is it the current government?

Spot on as usual Takiab. That area on Sukhumvit all the way down to Soi 15 or wherever is notorious for African's dealing, plus prostitution/pimps to a lesser extent. And diamonds with blood on them apparently I mean the dealing issue is seriously blatant with punters turning up on spec and popping down side streets etc.

They did introduce a 9pm or summit 'curfew' between Soi's 5 to 13 Sukhumvit a year or two back for anyone without legitimate permit to stay and whatever, it was made clear any African's drinking along the pavement set-ups, would be 'examined'. Guess they move across to Soi 2-4. I know the brasses certainly did, I saw their big b**** asses. If I'm allowed to say 'asses' that is
