New arrivals to Hua Hin appreciate the cleanliness of the area...the lack of corruption
I love this place I really do. But, just as I dislike people who can do nothing but badmouth the town/country, I get irked with people who romanticise it as something it's not!

Ha Ha Pleng. well spotted. I'm sure once they're no longer "new arrivals" they find one or two litter louts do inhabit the area and that not all persons of stature are whiter than white.

"lack of corruption"
No doubt, from the perspective of an expenses-paid junket that does not have to deal with officialdom. Hotel, restaurant and shopping mall staff aren't corrupt as we know.
On one hand this naif claims a couple can live nicely on as little as $1,100/month (33,000 baht) then marvels at prices like condos renting for $800-1000/mo., housekeepers for $225/mo and masssages for $10-20.
I'd like her to try living in HH on $1,100/mo. There would not be any housekeeper and damn few massages. Don't even think about eating out or having a drink and playing golf would be as likely as meeting HM.
20% of HH's population of 85,000 are expats? Where do they dream up these figures?

Well, at least the author didn't refer to Hua-Hin as a quaint little fishing village.

:agree:
It's really probably 1-2% of HH's population.
I would never want to live/retire in HH for any significant length of time.

Like this one?:

"They've brought a lot of their former lives with them, including reading clubs, festivals, cycling clubs, soccer leagues, wine-tasting, and darts tournaments."

Why would you go all that distance and bring a lot of your former wives with you?! Oh, sorry; "lives".

Makes you think the guy probably has a relocation service he is selling, and is posting 'ex-officio' to drive business.

I love the way she gives a passing nod to the fact that there are enough Thai people around to make the place feel - well - foreign! Surprise surprise. Has she played 'spot the local' in MV maybe? Or perhaps been talking to one of the privileged few farang who partakes in municipal matters?

Her particular audience may not want too many pesky locals around, just a few to add a bit of 'exotic' probably enough. Did she mention there are several Thai restaurants for the adventurous?
