My lucky day!

Decided to pay a visit to Bluport today and headed for the basement car park on the northern side.
Managed to find a spot fairly easily and after parking the vehicle, walked passed the rear and noticed a a piece of brown builders line on the side of the tire. Went to pull it off but it was attached to a screw which had wedged neatly between the tire treads. No puncture thank goodness!

Second phase of Hua Hin’s BluPort Mall to include luxury residences
Tourists in Hua Hin, Thailand can now cap a day at the beach with a stroll at the shopping mall, and with talks of a future housing project beside it, they will soon be able to live where they shop too.

Hua Hin Asset Co, the joint venture between The Mall Group and the Liptapanlop family’s Proud Real Estate firm, opened on Saturday its first mall in the beach resort town: BluPort.

The rise of top-end residential property projects in Hua Hin has become a deciding factor in the mall’s creation, according to Supaluck Umpujh, vice-chairwoman of The Mall Group, the developers behind the Siam Paragon in Bangkok. “Many executives have a second home in Hua Hin, where they enjoy relaxing on weekends,” she told The Nation. “Hua Hin is a charming city with a long legacy.”

The new mall stands next to a tract of land that has been reserved for a residential development, according to Pasu Liptapanlop, executive director of Hua Hin Asset.

BluPort, which covers 200,000 square metres, cost more than THB5billion (USD144 million) to build. The retail centre is expected to command heavy foot traffic, with 20,000 visitors expected on weekdays and 60,000 at peak season.

Aside from retailers, residential developers are bullish on Hua Hin’s prospects. PACE Development is developing MahaSamutr, a community of villas which gird a Crystal Lagoon similar to one in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The development earned three awards at the recently wrapped-up Thailand Property Awards.

Made my first visit late afternoon with my daughter. No queues and easy parking unlike when I left when there were very long queues piling in.

An impressive shopping mall but many 'high end' shops with their exorbitant prices. I found Gourmet Market very pleasing with many things I've not seen in Hua Hin for months. As someone has said, the range of beers available is second to none. There were several Fullers beers along with some of Young's beers plus many more.

Took my passport as someone suggested and claimed my MCard and a whole bunch of discount vouchers. Strangely enough, they are only available to foreigners. For once we had one over the locals!!

Now the downside:

The nearest lift to my parking space was out of order, the lift having stuck on one floor so had to use steps.

An escalator was also out of order although there were 'technicians' looking at it.

The piece-de-resistance: My daughter chose to eat at Burger King on the ground floor. It was FLOODED! The water was spewing from a wall where it meets the floor. It's near one of the entrances and it was pouring with rain. However It wasn't coming from outside as the outside wall was dry being under cover. I guess it was coming down inside the wall from somewhere above!!

I will go again but only for the supermarket.

Mrs BB got her M Card, vouchers and little bag. When we got mine, I was the only Farang amongst dozens of Thais.

We tried one of the discount vouchers that said "Buy 1 Get 1 Free" and listed a number of food vendors on it. We went to some of them and asked what we could use it for and it was:
- Buy a cake for 650B and get some ice cream free
- Buy and expensive prawn dish for 800B and get a free coffee
- Buy 5 coconut drinks and get 1 free
- Spend 300B minimum and get a small cake free

Basically worthless.

OK, I've now tried the cinema - as with Market Village, too cold for comfort.

Cinema itself was quite well done out with comfy chairs etc., although I prefer the decor of Market Village - just looks a little more classy to me Easy enough to park when I arrived at 7pm.

I decided to use a buy one get one free voucher from my pack - what a mistake. The voucher says hand it to the concierge. The voucher does not tell you its not the concierge at the cinema. We were quite late for the start of the show, and the last thing I wanted was an expedition around Bluport looking for the other concierge.

Off I set, and eventually I find signs to the concierge. Then I'm stopped by one of the hooped wonders they call staff. She was insistent I was going the wrong way. FFS, I was stood under the sign, and it was pointing in the direction I was moving in. There was no way she wanted me to continue in the right direction. Eventually, Mrs BB caught up and started talking Thai. For some reason I must have looked as though I was going to sh*t myself, because the hooped wonder thought I was rushing for the toilet. She did apologise.

Eventually they exchanged the voucher, and it was another rush back to the cinema.

Apart from the cold, it was a good experience, eventually.

Just what I was told at the desk. When my daughter inquired she was told.... 'only foreigners'!

I did a little walkabout this morning. Other than to maybe buy a bottle or two of spirits that I have not seen anywhere else here in town I don't know that they will do very much by me. I'm not a shopper and I did not try to compare prices at all.

I was expecting the place to be bigger than it was just based on the comments. Lots of pretty girls and that is just the ones who are working. Almost every one of them looked bored to death. That goes for all the other employees as well. It was not noisy at all while I was there. The weekend will probably be different. I don't know what they were thinking as they could have probably crammed another 500 cell phone booths in that top floor just like all the other malls do.

I did not come across the HH Ham & Bacon outlet. I don't get to the side of town where they are located very much so I thought I would look them up but did not stumble across their spot in the mall. Where might they be located?

Cheers!

They are not easy to spot, but I've seen a few photos on Facebook, which might help you.

They are in Gourmet Express, or at least that's what I think they call it.

Frozen food is scattered around the freezers, but clearly labelled Hua Hin Ham & Bacon

I couldn't be 100 % certain, but some of those sausages looked to be priced at 70 Baht per 100 gms, so 700 Baht per kg, which makes them mighty expensive!!
