Security issue at Market Village.

Post by usual suspect »

I've just been to M.V. this afternoon, & on my way in I noticed on the seats outside McD's 4 un-attended bags..??
( 2 backpacks, & 2 sports bags).
Right next to them was a security man on his radio..All is in order I thought, he's dealing with them & I carried on into the bowels of Shopping Hell..(to milk the Eon machine).
On my return some 20 mins later, McDonald's is still FULL of Thai families, the security guard is nowhere to be seen..& yes, these 4 bags are STILL left there!
It would seem I'm missing something here, but in my mind this kind of security issue is now worldwide..
..well except for here.
Now maybe the security man DID find out who these bags belonged to, but it was a bit daunting to see them there, & no one else around even noticing them..I must be getting to paranoid in my old grumpy time of life.. :?

So did you not report it to anybody else before walking off?

The above may also be a clear indication of how paranoid all this terrorist and security talk has made us.
We can discuss from now and till Christmas 50 years from now the neccessity of these so-called security measures. I for one think it's just tooooo much and that this security hohum has gone way overboard. What is it worth when security "officers" are brainless??

I guess it is a problem because my Thai skills would not be good enough to communicate with somebody who does not speak English - hopefully all it was were some misplaced bags.

You mean you're incapable of pointing at some bags, raising your eyebrows, then waving your hands in the air and going "boom!"

Mind you, the average Thai security guard would probably pick the bag up and tip it out...

EDIT: ... or blow his whistle! :banghead:
This is the way

That sounds like a sure fire way to get yourself arrested, fast!

Being from the Boston area and having just gone thru that entire mess... We are all going to be very cautious of any and all packs left unattended... The terrorist win when they have us all paranoid... Sad way of life yet again....

Once, just once I saw a security guard shout and wave his stick at some Soi dogs--that is the only action I have ever seen them take. Use their intelligence, their common sense, their initiative--- give me a break!

Someone once said to me that they love the idea of keeping a few chickens in the garden because not only can you get free eggs, but also because they're living garden ornaments............security guards (at least here in Thailand) are just that as well. They can move about, they can open and close gates, and they can help direct cars when no help is actually required, but that is where their usefulness ends.

As for the bags left outside McD's.......the security guard most likely did find out that the owners of those bags were chomping down burgers and had simply left their bags outside for convenience.

For what it's worth, I also think all this security/anti terrorism stuff has gone to far. Sure there is some risk, but to be honest, there always has been. I for one am not going to spend the remainder of my life living in fear, and most certainly not in Thailand where driving on the roads is more dangerous than any terrorist organization could ever hope to be.
