Hua Hin Train Station Waiting Room
Hua Hin Train Station Waiting Room
Is a new Waiting Room necessary with the increased tourism in Hua Hin?
Previously, I have been waiting for a train and noticed the lack of seating and shelter for its users.
There is also a huge area of platform that nobody uses as it is normally too hot for anyone to stand.
so a good idea? or just a waste of space.

I like it but it will be tough getting them to pay for it......is it a donation? I personally would get rid of the "Waiting Room" sign and put up something with different wording?.....I don't know what....? Pete

hi Pete,
waiting room is a traditional name for this type of area, however, any suggestions are welcome.
sponsors can donate money that will be used to construct the building, advertising space inside the room will be permanently available to sponsors.

I always thought a room had 4 walls and a door. Sometimes a window!
This is a shelter!!

I had "Sala" in mind. Sala La Choo-Choo? Pete

Re: Hua Hin Train Station Waiting Room
Getting back to the original question:
Regardless of what it's called and whether it's a room or a shelter or a sala, I think it is a good idea, an appropriate design, and it fits in very well with the station building.
Can't say whether it's called for as I haven't used a train in a long while, and I certainly wouldn't like to bet on the likelihood of the local authorities or the railway paying to have it constructed.
EDIT 1: There is, of course, no need to call it anything - its purpose is obvious.
EDIT 2: I'd also think about more seats. Given how long you have to wait for trains here, I'd prefer to do it seated.

It looks like a pavilion, it acts as a pavilion, it functions as a pavilion. IT IS A PAVILION.
Does it need a name? Call it "THE PAVILION"
and just for the heck of it add "For First Class Passengers Only" in Thai.

Missed this when I made my last post. Good idea, but in the absence of walls, you'll need to have a framework of some kind between the supports to carry advertising.splitlid wrote:sponsors can donate money that will be used to construct the building, advertising space inside the room will be permanently available to sponsors.

Advertising space in inside up above on the internal cream panels seen in the second image

I like the pavilion idea. But who knows. 'The carport' may win me over.
A few design issues came up when doing this project.
1. It had to fit into the original design and style of the existing project.
(Originally wanted to go modern but getting it passed by govt. would be impossible.
2. It had to be within a budget as it would be sponsored.
3. It had to be useable by the local thai population as well as foreigners.
4. It had to fit on the existing platform.
This above brief made me come up with this design. Seating is doubled up(back to back)
So there is seating for approx 60 people.
A simple design that everyone can use and appreciate.

Re: Hua Hin Train Station Waiting Room
Considering the history and significance of HH station it's a brilliant concept IMO. It doesn't need walls - heaven forbid - who wants to be walled in on the platform in that heat for gawds sake?
But - (always a 'but' isn't there?) the most useful train times HH to Bangers in my experience are in the middle of the night, and it would be more useful if the shop was open then.
For that one silly little afternoon train which potters down from Bangers to HH and back again - at times to suit itself - there is the rather cute station cafe in which to shelter!

Re: Hua Hin Train Station Waiting Room
The problem with the high roof and no walls is that half the seating area would be in the sun most of the day. OK, the sun moves, but that would just make a different half unusable.
