I have seen that Big Buddha statue several times, one only 2 days apart. Long story, but I do like to spend my time at the beaches, The Suan Son Beach and some to the south are my favorite beaches
less tourists, no rocks, less or no jelly fish make the distance worth the visit.

I think that 'Big Buddha' is a monk not Buddha

You are so right. My apologies. Big Monk statue.
Anyway it is great to see all the other pictures, keeps my mind on Thailand,
and my dreams alive of spending much more time there in the future.

Wat Khao Noi

As I drive North on the Canal Road, I often looked left at the smatt temple perched on top of what is a pimple on the landscape. I often thought there might be some nice views up there, so made a trip a couple of days ago. Just a shame about this constant mist that's hanging around.

You'd be amazed what the New Ranger can do

Seriously, I went on exercise with Army on Salisbury Plain, and needed new underwear after some of the things they drove up and down in Land Rovers (I was strapped in the back holding on for dear life). After that, a 'good' driver (definitely not me) would probably be able to tackle those steps. Guys who own both Ranger and Land Rover claim the Ranger is more capable. I hope I never find out.

^ What Photoshop (I assume) function did you use to do that?
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Not Photoshop, GIMP*

Easy explanation is the original image didn't use the full range of pure white to pure black so I expanded that range (also known as stretching the histogram), then made the sky bluer.

Histogram before and after. Pure black is on the far left, pure white on the far right (yes, the layout of histograms was designed by a Conservative :-)

Detailed explanation:
A. Made luminosity mask to isolate the darkest parts. Inverted the mask, used Levels to expand histogram.
B. Made luminosity mask to isolate the sky, used Levels to darken.
C. Combined A&B
D. Isolated the sky, used Curves to emulate Fuji Provia film, which was known for it's cool, translucent colors.
E. Combined C&D.
F. Sharpened E.

* GIMP is open source (free) software. Doesn't do much compared to Photoshop (PS). In PS a fix is often a button push followed by moving sliders to tweak. In GIMP it's done by hand - but it's a lot easier to use if one understands the hows and whys of what changes it's making to the image. Not recommended unless one wants a solid base upon which to build the use of other post processing tools.

Who are you calling a GIMP! :D

Very interesting explanation and lesson... thanks Homer! I considered myself and expert in film photography but have fallen behind in the digital age... :(

If anyone has any decent photos of Hua Hin they'd like us to feature as the cover photo on our Facebook page please post them here (minimum width 1000 pixels) - wide ones work best.
