Thailand has a reputation for spicy food and Thai restaurants catering for tourists play to that reputation, but it's actually a very regional thing. Many Thais, especially at the more affluent end of the spectrum, put little or no fire into their cuisine.

However, if you're in the company of peasant stock from Issan, your love of spicy food may be tested to destruction..!

For the fellows that I see and chat with when I am visiting Thailand, I have to give this advice.
It is 2015, and good lord! we are all getting older, so drink slower and enjoy more of the
night before your eyesight gets blurry. Remember, if you have not got a wife or GF with you,
do not try to grab one after your 5th drink, as chances are she will not be as young or good
looking as you thought at midnight. Stay in a nicer hotel than you did when you were 20 or 30, as you have earned it!
Drink the better quality rums, whiskey, and even beers, again, you should have enough money by
now to afford it, and your liver will thank you for it. Thank God I have not had my doctor tell me that I can`t
live like this yet. Good Luck to the lot of you, and have a great Winter when it arrives.
Geezer
Pluto is my favorite planet!, especially now that we all can see close up
pictures of it.

i luv your tips, i have recently moved to Thailand for a lifestyle change, and am looking forward to many of the items you list in your post. I agree that the older you get the more you need to enjoy life, for we don't know how long we will be around.

This brings up a question I have never thought of figuring aout hte answer to: Can one get cash for the cahsier when paying for items in Big C or Tesco Lotus? It would also save men the 150 Bahgt I am charged every time I take out baht from the ATM machine. I hardly ever take c ash from the local supermarket in my home country as I hardly ever need the c<ash, everythign cn be paid for with card. However, In LOS I need some cash almost daily

I think you would send them into such a state of panic and confusion that the rescue services may need to be called. I think there was a letter in the Bangkok Post of a man in a 7-11, or perhaps a Tesco, where his bill was something like 37 Baht and he gave the clerk 57 Baht and asked for a 20 Baht note back. It had to be resolved by the manager who stated, "we don't do things that way here..." Pete

88) Beware the jelly fish! I've been swimming 3 times in Jellyfish low season with not one in sight, but their tentacles still seem to be floating around in the water! Got jabbed 3 times out of 3!

89) Never contribute to a "tips and advice for visitors" thread ;)

90)

Beware if a Thai lady (non - bar) invites you to join her visiting her parents. It means she expects you to marry her and you are in for dowry discussions. That's OK if you are of another mindset and oblivious to it, it's not OK if you are of the mindset that you actually intend to marry the girl but have no clue about what's going on. That's what happened to me with the girl I dated before I met my current wife.

91) You are thinking of finding a Thai Girlfriend and possibly marry her? get a Thai mate first - someone who can translate the Thai Rules of Engagement to you and make you aware what's going on or not.

On a side note: I was lucky to get a future brother - in - law to do that job for me - It is not clear from everybody's posts on this board if the expatriated farangs have a Thai Mate to explain a few things to them (us) We seem to rely an aweful lot on out wives with whatever consequences that may have.

On being pestered by bar girls. If you go to a bar and do not respond, do not buy them any drinks or take them out. After one or two visits you will be labelled as a NO_GO and there will be no problem.
