Hua Hin Markets

Post by Big Boy »

Over the next few weeks, I will be featuring various markets around Hua Hin. I will feature them in no particular order.

Number 1 - The Night Market

In my personal opinion, this is the most popular tourist market in Hua Hin. As well as selling a lot of Thailand keepsakes, there are a good variety of food options. This market opens every night as the sun goes down, and stretches the entire length of Soi 72.

Ref DSC02950.1b, didn't we have a Mexican Restaurant sponsor at one time with a place right there at the end?

On this market pointing north left hand side is a young girl that has a market stall selling t-shirts.
Over the years I have perchased about 40 Red bull t- shirts from her all different colors and styles and all excellent quality they are always a very popular gift for friends back home.
I also have perchased Mr Men t-shirts for my daughter to use as night shirts as they made of very soft material, two years ago and they are still in a very good condition.

I hope she is still there as I have told my wife that I will not take any t- shirts on holiday only shirts.
I will buy them there and some for my littl'en.

I also like the stall that makes the pancakes chopped up into little squares
covered in Carnation topping and seved on a tray with a little plastic fork.

No 2 - Chatsila Market

This market can be accessed from Petchkasem Road (across from the clock tower), or from The Night Market on Soi 72. Very much like the Night Market, it is geared more towards Hua Hin visitors.

I see it as an extension of the Night Market, but it does have one big advantage with about 50% of the market being under cover, and those stalls are permanent i.e. don't have to be erected at the start of each evening; nor do they have to be dismantled.

There is a food area, where visitors can eat, but this is nowhere near as extensive as the Night Market next door.

The remaining area is out in the open, and needs to be set up and dismantled daily.

Thanks for all of the market pictures, day and night views.
I have always forgot to bring my camera to that area. Now I can show my wife
what she has missed by not coming to Hua Hin with me during my visits.

No. 3 - Soi 59 Market (Tanon Khon Dhun Market)

Located on the South side of Hua Hin Temple, between Petchkasem Road and Poonsuk. In my opinion, this is the least significant 'tourist' market in town. However, it's been around for as long as I can remember, so it must be doing something right.

I think the secret of this market's success is location. It is an ideal rat run between the other tourist markets, the Colonnade, Hua Hin Shopping Mall etc and the many restaurants and bars in the Bintablock area.

Not being a shopper, I'm not sure if this market sells different items to the other markets, but it is usually quite busy busy during high season. However, the main danger is that as well as people using the road as a rat run, motorcycles also use it if the traffic lights at the nearby crossroads are red - be careful.

The thing that you don't find at this market is the variety of street food that you find at other markets, but why would you, when there are so many reasonably priced places along the Temple wall?

Yes, I've been watching them prepare the ground for the last few weeks - I come to the conclusion it could be a market. Just need to hope they consider parking because Petchkasem Road could become congested otherwise.

My wife reckons they have the same markets in BKK and that the prices should be cheap - let's hope so!!
