Most have now gone throughout Thailand's 'Farang' resorts. It was part of the Junta's clean up Thailand's beaches campaign.

So what you're saying, for example in Khao Takiab, we are not going to see the same old beach bars that rent also the sun bathing chairs and serve fod and drinks?? I really hope this is not the case...

Sorry Juice, all gone. Having said that Ton's is still there closest to Monkey mountain but that is overshadowed by the new ferry terminal they're building.

Get away from a Farang resort to somewhere like Cha-Am and you'll be OK.

Crap! Now my holiday is ruined...we have small children and a free condo in Khao Takiab so not going to go to Cha-am. :cuss: what are we going to do the whole month? Stay at the pool? Any ideas?

Yesterday was the worst I have seen the beach. Besides jellyfish, there were tonnes of rubbish being washed ashore. From plastic to hair clips, from kids toys to even a shoe. The beach really has become a disaster. And there is some toxic yellow foam that I have seen for years. Does anyone know what it is?

Oh swell, sounds even more promising! I was looking forward to a nice getaway mostly at the beach but now it's turning to a nightmare that is now looming for four months.

Juice81, don't be put off by the above, it's a bit melodramatic. The beach will be cleaned up in a day or two if not already and the foam is definitely not 'toxic', just doesn't look too nice.

Edit : It didn't stop many Thais enjoying themselves on the beach and in the water around 5 pm last night.

So in other words the juntas clean up the beaches operation has done the thing that there's no more locals that clean the washed crap out in the morning before tourists come to the loungers?

Oh okay, sigh...what about beverages and all the little snacks? You cannot get them anywhere anymore?

juice, don't worry about the rubbish, it happens every year and can get much worse than it is now. It will be cleared away by Christmas - no problem for February. Here's a video from a few years back that I've posted a few times:

Regarding jellyfish, they are always there (I don't believe the Box Jellyfish presents a problem here, but can't be sure), just sometimes more than others. Be careful - keep an eye open - I've always been able to spot them drifting my way. Make sure you have vinegar, or one of the other remedies at hand.

There are a couple of spots where you can still get a deckchair or sunbed, and the beach restaurants that have survived are generally just off the beach. I'm sure you and your kids will have a great time.

So what's the toxic looking yellow foam. Does anyone know?

If we're talking about the beach on the south side of Khao Takiep, there's still a load of little restaurants and places to get drinks. Fear not.
