Well, even though the tide was quite high this evening, the beach was looking a lot better, although the current tide was still depositing more debris on the beach. The previous rubbish was still there, but had been made into small piles, which I assume will be shoveled into the back of a lorry at some stage.

Unfortunately, I could only get as far as Soi 77 this evening as the tide was so high. I could have waded across, but I am very wary of water quality at that point.

Typical Hua Hin publicity - this was posted about an hour ago. Probably 4 hours too late :?

The thing that baffles me, and I'm hoping one of our trash heroes can explain - why take a portrait when you're cleaning the beach?

I just came back to Thailand and I see plastic everywhere, being used in all the stores
and on the streets. It is definitely an Asian thing, as well as most other countries around the
world. In grocery stores in Canada, we can bring in our own bags, and I see some of them so dirty that I wonder, is that a better thing, to put your new groceries into a bag that is so full of bugs and bacteria etc., but I do not mind the plastic ones in Thailand, as I use them for collecting my garbage, so I can get it to the bins without dropping it
all over the place. I have seen worse litter on a Pacific Island in the middle of the ocean, as too many
of their population do not get the idea that if you throw your garbage into the ocean it will just drift along
and pollute one of the island beaches elsewhere. I agree though that Thailand grocery stores should let you in with empty clear plastic bags of theirs, so you could re-use them, will they let you do that?
If not then, long live Thailand of Asia.

Should not be Clean the beach, it should be clean Hua Hin, ban plastic bags and start fining people who drop litter and dump. Every where one looks you see plastic bags, tins, rubbish all over the place

I notice the sign says day, singular. It would be nice if that amount of people would show up weekly

As Big Boy said debris keeps coming in and has been for the last few months. Top that with general Thai debris of plastic, bottles, oil, etc, the beach is in a perpetual state of mess. Besides Pattaya, probably the worst tourist beach in Thailand. But if the Thais don't care why should we farang?

This topic caught my attention as I try to help out Trash Hero HH every Thursday around Takiab when I am in town. There is one very committed Thai girl (Noo) and usually just me and a couple of other farangs helping out. We generally do the southern side of Monkey Mountain, south of the last restaurant, but occasionally head north in front of the standing Buddha. The majority of the rubbish collected is plastic bag type material, but not sure if it is the normal white or clear shopping bags as it is normally dark in colour. This could be caused by long term water logged?? There are also plenty of plastic spoons, straws, bottles, caps, footwear and the odd glass bottle. Plastic items are the main culprit though. Now whether it is from offshore or left by persons on the beach is neither here nor there, but there is a serious lack of education here with regards to the use of plastic and how to reduce this problem, not to mention the issue of not actually cleaning up after yourself. Oh well, at least I know I'll be getting a couple of hours exercise tomorrow at 3pm helping clean up my local beach. At least the oil problem has gone as that was a pretty filthy job cleaning that up. See you there :)

Oil problem has not gone as mentioned in above posts and will probably remain for a few more months. Problem is that that the government or council refuse to throw money at it to clean the beach and keep Thai businesses profitable. Who are we to debate the Thai way of doing things. They will live and learn through $$$ and nothing else.

I walk on the beach about 3 times a week. Inter-continental to Takiab or to the Hilton) The trash problem is less than a few years ago, its always worse on Mondays as the Thai BKK crowd leave a lot of containers. I take just a grocery bag, that I usually fill. There is a lack of trash containers and I take my bag of goodies to my local trash can.

You are right TicTac, there is some oil issues still on the beaches. Today we concentrated on the area south of the most southern restaurant on Takiab, and down past the golf course creek for another 200 metres or so. Plenty of oily bits of plastic at the high tide mark. Mind you, no where near as bad at the actual time of the slick a few weeks back. I did speak to one restaurant staffer and she stated that one of their customers went for a swim and came out with quite a bit of oily coverage. Not to mention quite a few jellyfish washed up. I think I'll stay up the beach in the bars for a while :)

Just back from my beach walk (couldn't go yesterday) - the beach was the cleanest I've seen it for a while. The only litter was natural i.e. dead fish/jelly fish. I don't know if it was down to the above beach clean, but well done, whoever it was.

Will there be more fish or plastic in the sea in 2050?

I am glad to see that there is still a group that puts in the effort to clean the beaches in
the Hua Hin area. I seen this when I was in Kata Beach in Phuket, many years ago, 15 to 20 years ago.
A squad was paid by the hotels and Club Med to walk the beach each evening and pick up debris that
either blew in from the ocean, or was left by someone during the day. A lot better practise that this island
in the Pacific Ocean that did not care about their guests and tourists that visited their.
