That's an incredible number - 100 tons. Can anybody put that into full garbage truck loads?

Even more incredible is that it happens every year. This year was by no means the worse. In my opinion 2010 was by far the worst year I have seen, and I would estimate at least double the amount of rubbish washed in. Even though there is too much plastic, polystyrene, etc waste, I would guess at least 90% of what is washed up is natural i.e. bamboo, coconuts etc.

I'd agree with you there, BB.
I'm not sure about the year but 2010 sounds about right for the debris. And it's the "natural" stuff that I always think is dangerous to me as I walk the beach.
The bamboo that might well spear me, the rusty nail on a bit of wood. It's actually quite dangerous to walk there sometimes IMHO.
As a smoker and a beach walker I will give up my one cigarette that I smoke between The Centara and Khao Takieb.
And as a side note, I will give the filters to my caddie when I'm playing golf. I normally do but towards the end of the round as I'm getting tired I forget.
Maybe it would be better if I stopped smoking?

It's looking good now as the workforce were out again cleaning yesterday, probably as clean as it's been in the 13 years I've been coming here, until Saturday morning after Loy Krathong!

Despite yesterday's cold and wet weather, 12 volunteers still turned up for the regular Sunday beach clean. The message yesterday, "Please refuse plastic straws when buying drinks" - straws were very prevalent yesterday.

There were 25 volunteer Heroes who removed 80 kg. of trash from Takiab beach and Khao Takiab area earlier today. Conditions were perfect with a clear blue sky but a wind kept them cool.
