How Many Frickin' 7/11s Are They Going To Build?
How Many Frickin' 7/11s Are They Going To Build?
So I am amazed they are building another 7/11 in Khao Takiap. There are two Family Marts about 100 yards apart and now a new 7/11 about 50 yards down the road from them.
About one minute by scooter down the road there is a new Joy Market that was built next to a, you guessed it, a 7/11!
So two convenience stores right next to each other. 20 feet apart. The new Joy market is nice, they spent big bucks on construction of that building. Lots of modern steel and glass with a ocean view terrace. But no one goes in there. And maybe a dozen Thai mom and pop stores selling water and crap junk food all around these stores.
And there is a CJ market on the other side of the road about 50 yards down, and another 7/11 past that. Then a Tesco Lotus Express!
How long until you step off the plane and step directly into a 7/11?

I think it's time to change your signature.

Brilliant - spot on.................
James West - Welcome to Thailand
Probably the month after they've finished all the new high speed railwaysJamesWest wrote:.........How long until you step off the plane and step directly into a 7/11?

Getting away from James' contradictory signature, as far as I'm concerned, just keep them coming. I don't use them very often, but I know, wherever I am in Thailand that a 7/11 isn't far away and I know what I'm buying in there - and unless you're GLC, you don't have to barter.
I'm sure all of the owners have a rock solid business plan, and rows of 7/11s are a viable product. You rarely see one without a queue.

Guess I have to agree BB
It's interesting, at the end of our road where it joins Pa La U Road, we have had a CJ,7-11, Family Mart, Mini Tesco Lotus + rebuilt corner shop all within the last year and all within a 100m or so.
Bring it on - saves going in to town for a bottle of milk........................

I love having a 7-11 nearby. Where I'm at right now there are only 2 in the whole town. I didn't realise how important they were to me until they got snatched away, suddenly.
One of the 7-11's closed down a couple of weeks ago. All stock taken out and sign taken down. Driving past it this morning, I noticed that the new owners are putting stock into their new space and putting the sign up to their new shop. What is their new shop...?
... a 7-11.

Many 7/11s sell bags of pre-chopped apples.
Family Marts generally have whole apples.

How is it that there is not a one of them along Soi 102? I'm with those that think it's ok to have one near. Send us one that you don't think you need please. There needs to be a real nice one there on the intersection where the road come over from Soi 94. It would add ever more sport to the all ready confused traffic patterns.
There is one at the top of the soi on the main drag but that don't count! It's a pain in the arse to get to.

CP states that there are plans for another 10,000 store before they're anywhere near saturation.

I was about to say that Thailand is number 4 in number of 7/11s but just checked and learned they are number 3 in a world wide comparison.
Cut from Wikipedia:
The first store opened in 1989 on Patpong Road in Bangkok. The franchise in Thailand is the CP ALL Public Company Limited, which in turn grants franchises to operators. There are 8,334[29] 7-Eleven stores in Thailand as of 2013, with approximately 50% located in Bangkok. Thailand has the 3rd largest number of 7-Eleven stores after Japan and the United States.[30]
The company plans to spend five billion Thai baht to expand its business. Two billion will be used to open 500 new outlets, one billion to renovate existing stores, and the rest to develop a new distribution center in the East.

Re: How Many Frickin' 7/11s Are They Going To Build?
The CP Group is a very aggressive player that actively hunts down newly opened Family Marts and etc, and then opens a store of their own as close as possible. They also couldn't care less about the people why buy a franchise. Your 7/11 could be doing a roaring trade, and they won't hesitate to open another one a few meters down the road. Their profits go up while yours goes down.
As a business though, CP is clearly a very successful organization. Personally, I don't like 7/11 and I very rarely find myself inside one. Not only are their prices inflated, but they are also often incorrectly displayed which for some reason really annoys me. Also, whenever I've taken advantage of one of their special offers, it has always been up to me to inform the cashier. Now, is this simply because nobody knows how to maintain the computer system, or are these oversights intentional?
And, my biggest 7/11 gripe of them all.......those bloody stupid ding dong alarms that sound every time somebody enters or leaves the shop. I'm blessed to have a Makro just down the road.

Don't try to impress me with your manner of dress cos a monkey himself is a monkey no less - cold fact
Re: How Many Frickin' 7/11s Are They Going To Build?
i try to eat healthy and there is nothing but junk in 7/11.
bananas, almonds, water, yogurt, green tea... thats about it in the whole store... maybe the seaweed snacks. everything else has tons of sugar added... and or high carbs...
they do have good pot stickers for emergency snack at 2:00am.
i don't know how they can listen to the ding dong all day long... makes me crazy in like two minutes. maybe that is so people don't hang out in the store for the air con.
