Yes, we're still on the beach most evenings after dark. Exceptionally, my son somehow picked up a big blob of oil on one foot last night, but that is the only real incident since we resumed walking the dogs again. The oil problem does seem to be more of a minor irritation these days than a problem.

After yesterday's heavy sea, the beach is full of debris again now - not the unsightly mess of about 2 months ago, but far from clean

Yes, the rougher sea has obviously stirred it up again. I had oil on my feet again. I don't think we will see any daytime low tides until after the dark moon on 11 Dec. perhaps then we will see how it is affecting the shell fish and how it accumulates around the rocks

One thing I have noticed is my dog's favourite pastime when walking the beach was chasing the many crabs. The crabs don't seem anywhere near as plentiful since we resumed our beach walks.

I noticed some of the hermit crabs have oil on their shells - almost certainly going to affect them in the long term

When I saw the headline elsewhere my immediate thought was a new restaurant :duck:  Guess I'd better get breakfast.

Had a walk along the beach just south of Takiap today. Quite a depressing site...so many foreigners on sun loungers and at the beachside cafes but the beach itself was covered in what looked like plastic sheets or bags covered in oil and black globules on the sand. Everyone had black patches on their feet and one women I saw coming out of the water had black oil on her lower legs. Strange thing was that I checked the beach which must be only about 1km north on the other side of the hill where the giant gold buddha is and its perfectly clean.

Oh crap. We're coming over in february with small children. That part of the beach was my favourite. But then again, the Takiab side is way better with children though. This oil thing really bums me out. I feel everytime we are going to a big trip it's always something. Bombings in Bangkok, a nuclear disaster in Japan or at least a hurricane in somewhere. I know it's not about us but still it feels like it...

Ps. Is there a chance that the new construction project is polluting that side of the beach?

I've been away for a while, and busy at other times. We got back on the beach last night for the first time in about 3 weeks. I am delighted to say the beach was looking as clean as we've seen it this year. Perfect for an after dark stroll along the beach. We even saw the ISS fly over.

I was reliable informed that the oil from the spillage during October has sunk into the sand on the sea bed. When there is a strong sea the embedded oil is dislodged and washed up on shore. It is this dislodged oil that we have recently seen and there is likely to be more whenever the conditions dictate.

Nil where exactly in South Takiab, i was at the temple on the north side of Takiab Hill, next to Supatra 2 mornings ago and it looks very clean, and was on the other side next to Anatasila and the new ferry terminal yesterday and looks quite "normal".

with no rain and some large tides recently the water and beach have been looking very clean.

I joined the beach on the road that has The Sanctuary apartments and then walked north for a bit. It's quite possible as has been suggested the construction work disturbed some trapped waste and oil that washed onto the beach that day.
