Ball Park figure for Hua Hin population?

Post by Gus »

I just wondered what is the population of Hua Hin? Given the changing seasons this will probably be a ball park figure, I am guessing 175,000. :)

I have seen similar numbers- I think in Hua Hin Post - but with the considerble development going on between Hua Hin North and Cha Am. plus along Soi 112 it begs the question what is the formal borders for Hua Hin Town. If you consider the question relevant to the Hua Hin Area, which in my mind is everybody and anything gravitating towards Hua Hin Town without consideration of any formal borders, the number of people may very well be higher?

I did a search on Wikipedia;

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hua_Hin_District

Hua Hin District (Amphoe) 85 thousand, HUa Hin town 50 thousand. These seem to be 2006 numbers so I would expext them to be higher now.

According to Thai wikipedia the population of Amphoe Hua Hin in 2557 BE (2 years ago) was 106,261. Amphoe Hua Hin stretches from the sea in the east to Burma in the west, so possibly that wasn't the OP'sintended question. For Hua Hin town, the municipality's own web site says 52,919. That's for the two tambons that make up the municipality, Hua Hin and Nong Kae (http://www.huahin.go.th/site/index.php? ... Itemid=280).

These figures are based on house registrations, so don't include Thais, tourists and other foreigners who may live here all the time but aren't in the house registration system.

I lived there from 2004 through 2014 and I think the population more than doubled during that period. There was a huge jump in the two or three years following the Tsunami down south as a lot of Thai people moved to Hua Hin from that area and a lot of tourists and expats discovered Hua Hin while that area was out of commission.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

85000 is about right for thai population but fulltime expat population is very low around 5000,this increases dramatically of course November to march.
This is the reason our low season bankrupts a lot of expat businesses
