Saturday Night - Deafening Music

Post by Nothappyjan » Sun May 22, 2016 7:35 am

Could someone enlighten me on how permission was granted for a loud rock concert was able to be staged adjacent to residential areas.
It started about 8 and was still going strong late into the night.
How and when does some muppet in Hua Hin municipal administration approve such a concert.
Any where else in the world it would be in an area that impacts the least upon local residents.
It sounded like it came from the Nava Water Park direction.
The music was of very poor quality and loud beyond description.

You'll get used to it - happens all the time - no such thing as noise abatement in Thailand. :banghead:
One BIG advantage - when YOU invite AC/DC to do a gig in your backyard - you'll get no complaints

Welcome to Thailand :duck:

You will need to get used to it unless you move, it is a prime location for loud concerts in Hua Hin.

The noise is coming from the empty lot north of the Hua Na market area, opposite the Motex gas station, and it's been used specifically for loud music events for some time now.

One of the big English publications about a month or so ago was interviewing an upper ranking police officer who said......"Foreigners complain about loud music (and other examples) which are part of Thai culture...." I'm really happy to hear that loud music and subsequent disturbing the peace late at night ranks right up there near the top of the cultural experience to be had here. :banghead: Pete

Yes re China, well actually Hong Kong. Coldplay played at the major sports stadium and everybody was issued with headsets to listen so the local residents wouldn't be disturbed.
I wouldn't have minded last night's music if the lead singer/s had half decent voices. They were flat and tuneless and relied upon very loud music to cater for their lack of vocal ability.

Yes there is an Environment Act where decibel levels are stipulated. Of course it's not enforced unless it's beneficial to the BIB (financially)

I only survived ten years there because of a good set of noise cancelling ear plugs. I'm a light sleeper and even frogs croaking outside woke me up, not to mention the near continuous dogs barking, loud motorbikes and tuk tuks passing and early morning chickens crowing. At least the music isn't every night.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

If you don't like noise, you're unfortunately in the wrong place.....

I was always comfortable with our equipment guarantees of 80db at 1m.... the local coffee shop was noisier!!

As for HK being China - nah...... no comparison, believe me - a Coldplay concert with headphones - yeah, you'll get that on the mainland!

Because there is no such thing as 'too loud' in Thailand.
