Not been to the states for a while. Should I wish to buy a house there is there no room for negotiation? Do all lawyers charge the same hourly rate? Is there no shop or street trader In the United states where I could negotiate? No services where I could negotiate? Or are they all fixed price?

I’m not talking about negotiation c’mon. Below is Arizona’s regulations to give you an idea. More than you needed probably, but necessary to show the complexity, this is just a small part actually, LOL, price is F4.

ARIZONA 41-2081. Sale of commodities
A. A person shall not sell or offer or expose for sale less than the quantity the person represents.
B. As a buyer, a person shall not take any more than the quantity the person represents when the person furnishes the weight or measure by means of which the quantity is determined.
C. A person shall not misrepresent the price of any commodity or service sold or offered, exposed or advertised for sale by weight, measure or count or represent the price in any manner calculated or tending to mislead or in any way deceive a person.
F. Except as otherwise provided in this chapter or by rules adopted pursuant to this chapter, any package kept for the purpose of sale or offered or exposed for sale shall bear on the outside of the package a definite, plain and conspicuous declaration of:
1. The identity of the commodity in the package, unless the commodity can easily be identified through the wrapper or container.
2. The quantity of contents in terms of weight, measure or count
3. The name and place of business of the manufacturer, packer or distributor, in the case of any package kept, offered or exposed for sale or sold in any place other than on the premises where packed.
4. The price, except as provided in subsections K and L.
G. In addition to the declarations required by subsection F, any package being one of a lot containing random weights of the same commodity and bearing the total selling price of the package shall bear on the outside of the package a plain and conspicuous declaration of the price per single unit of weight.
H. If a packaged commodity is advertised in any manner with the retail price stated, there shall be closely and conspicuously associated with the retail price a declaration of quantity as is required by law or rule to appear on the package. If a dual declaration is required, only the declaration that sets forth the quantity in terms of the smaller unit of weight or measure need appear in the advertisement.
I. The packager of a short weighted item offered for sale is liable under this chapter.
J. If a retail seller engaging in the sale of motor fuel posts the selling price of the fuel on the premises, the seller shall post the selling price only by the price per gallon, except that if the fuel is dispensed by a measure other than whole gallons the seller shall represent the selling price for each unit of such other measure on the individual pump or other dispensing device. If a retail seller engaging in the sale of motor fuel advertises the price of the fuel off the premises, the retail seller shall advertise the price only by the price per gallon.
K. Instead of each package bearing the price as required under subsection F, paragraph 4, the seller may post the price of the package in bold type that measures no less than three-eighths of an inch on the shelf or display at the point of display of the product. If the price on the shelf or display is less than eighteen inches from floor level, the price shall be angled upward from vertical at least fifteen degrees.
L. If the package is offered for sale at a price reduced by a percentage or a fixed amount from a previously offered price, the reduction shall be displayed at the point of display of the package in the manner required by this section.
M. On the request of a consumer, a retail seller shall provide:
1. A means of recording prices such as grease pencils, felt markers, scanners or other similar instruments for recording the price.
2. A written statement of the retail seller's policies regarding errors in pricing. 41-2065. Powers and duties; definition
C. The director may establish standards for the presentation of cost-per-unit information. Nothing in this subsection shall be construed to mandate the use of cost-per-unit information in connection with the sale of any standard packed commodity.

Thanks for that Deep Blue.

I was not having a pop. I run a business here; 2 in fact and somebody doing a search for Hua Hin on the internet coming across one of the latest posts " Rip off Hua Hin" or " Rip off Thailand" does no business any good.
Yes the national parks were going to charge me extra until I pulled out my work permit and told them I was leading a tour. Which I was for several years.

As for price increases? I have to agree they can be sudden and not in line with inflation. Marlboro light went from 90 Bt to 125 Bt overnight. The pork we use went up 35% within 2 months and has now gone down roughly half the increase. Minimum wage has gone up. Not that we pay minimum wage as we do not want sub standard labour. Building materials have gone up. Other things, such as fuel, have gone down.

So before you moan that you paid 10k for something you could have paid 5k for, as you heard later in a bar, do your homework first.

Why are there so many moaners? Because so many are taking the P.

90% of businesses are legit, but the other 10% wind me right up. It is sheer profiteering. Fortunately, those usually trying to make a quick buck end up going out of business.

You're looking at it from a businessman's perspective, which is fine, I understand you don't like posts which could have a negative effect on your business.

But from the perspective of a current tourist who is looking to retire in Hua Hin in the not to distant future, I welcome this type of post. This is exactly the type of information I find useful.

I guess it depends where your priorities lie - protecting business reputations by not reporting realities , or protecting the consumers/users by giving them realistic facts.

I for one am grateful that a forum like this, with plenty of positive posts that attract me towards Thailand, and Hua Hin in particular, also give me the flip side with posts like this one which remind me of the negatives too.

I find this forum useful and so do many of the members.

A lot of people have had negative experiences here and in other countries. I got mugged in France and pick pocketed in Australia. Been burgled in England.

I can assure you that I inform friends that visit and my customers of the potential pitfalls here that may be different to those they would be aware of in their own countries. It is, however, a serious offence to slander a business or individual with, or without good reason.

I find Hua Hin and Thailand in general a great place to live. I hope you find the place and lifestyle you want here.

Crazy88, really, is that not being a bit melodramatic? Talk of slander.

In the day and age of Tripadvisor and Yelp type websites with their many millions upon millions of registered members, reviewers and readers, I ..... well I am simply at a loss for words to respond to the "slander" bit. Again though, I can understand your dislike of realistic posts as they could show businesses in a negative light which in turn could have a negative effect on you personally. In the same vein I would hope you could see that a lot of people, myself included, appreciate candid advice as it could have a positive effect on us.

Who knows, maybe you could have avoided being burgled in the UK, mugged in Paris and robbed in Australia if you had been given appropriate advice.

I have avoided a good couple of scams in Thailand (and other countries too) all due to advice and tips I have read on online forums.

Rip Off Hua Hin- Black Lotus and Spa

Post by shamall »

People, just a warning to others. I paid 3.7 million baht for a penthouse at the Black Lotus and spa resort just outside Hua Hin. The penthouse was never built, and the owner refuses to return my money. I am devastated, so warn your friends.

Not it's not. It's a worse offence (IMO) to suggest that it is.

Totally agree with you JW

I was shocked at how prices have gone up, particularly food/ drink and I do 3 months HH, 6 weeks UK.
A pair of chicken breasts B30 in Tesco Lotus, HH.....B270 in Morrisons, UK.....It's not worth cooking much in ether country! HH because food is so cheap, UK because the raw materials to cook are so expensive!
A friend of a friend is doing Tapas at his pub for free in the UK, 1 free with every drink.....up to 11 dishes on the menu in a set order. His cheapest wine was £2, with better quality at £2.50 and £3 per glass. So for around £10 ( B440) you have quite a good night.....I have not made the 11 th dish yet, but I'm up for the challenge when I get back
Enjoying 'Retirement'....So many jobs to do, I don't know how I ever had time to work!

That sucks. Put it on social media if you can to let others know. It bothers me to put 800,000 B in a Thai bank once a year, the trust isn't there with generals running the place.
