Explosion at Bor Fai?

Post by Big Boy »

I'm reading unconfirmed reports on social media of a large explosion at Bor Fai, followed by major power out. Does anybody know any more please?

BB, Those power transformers have a bad habit of announcing their demise with a loud sound. This would also probably explain the following power outage. Used to be quite common in Bangkok, especially during the changeover from dry weather to rainy.

So no emergency services anywhere - just an over-exaggeration on social media then. Sorry guys.

^^ Yes, I would agree with Vincent. Those who haven't heard/experienced an exploding transformer before tend to think it's something serious, like a bomb. Where I am we have them at least every two months, followed by an electric outage but if lucky, there is a second transformer/routing that takes over and returns power almost immediately. Lucky you, it happens 2-3 times per week where we are. :cuss:

Yes Big Boy, it was a transformer box about 200 meters up the road from my home. It's the first time I've heard this one going boom, but one which is a bit closer to our place usually bangs about once a month or so, apparently because of ants nesting in it. Usually, the power comes back on almost immediately but yesterday it took a while longer, and when it did come back on there were fireworks at the end of our road which lasted for about two or three minutes before it died in a big cloud of black smoke.
