I was down there last night and it has certainly changed the whole ambience. There's plenty more scooter parking available and you get an unimpeded view of the temple. There were also far fewer people around and Soi Bintabaht appeared to be suffering as a result of less passing trade.

there is a big difference between an area that is an eating and drinking area and one that is just a drinking area with a few food-carts.

Yes, there are, but those restaurants were favourites with many visitors, who passed through the Bintablock area twice a day to access them. Surely, Binthablock itself will suffer if patrons move to the likes of Soi 94.

since 1983 when I came here first time and then continiusly since 1993, you could always find food around, and TIT so there will always be some people who will make some money.
And I dont think Binta get a lot of money from these tourist anyway, but I could be wrong since I rarely go there anymore, and not to eat there for sure.
In the start when I lived Phuen Guesthouse it was exotic to walk to the karaoke area were there was a few restaurants and bars 8)
Just saying that people will find their way around and new places, and Im sure these owners will pop up somewhere else if they cant open there again.

I rarely go that way either these days, but as a tourist, I was there most nights. I think much of the custom comes from tourists. If this draw has gone, those people will go elsewhere. The area has to suffer.

I know many visitors, who go for food there, and then visit the local bars. If the 'budget' food can only be found elsewhere, then the bars nearest the budget eateries will surely prosper.

The advantage of these restaurants was that they were casual reasonably priced places right in the middle of where the tourists walk around at night. A lot of tourists don't venture out of that area between Phetkasem and the beach and Chomsin and Damnoern Kasem Rd. As an expat, I rarely frequented them but they will be missed by the repeat tourists for sure, as will the pier restaurants if they all go.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

You are spot on. We have visited Hua Hin now three years in a row and will probably continue as the town has become familiar and we have expat friends over there. Everytime we have gone eatingseveral times on Poon Suk road because of the good quality and the prices of the Moon Smile & Platoo. Then after you're done eating you can easily wander to the Night Market and so on. Does anyone know the schedule of the demolition of the pier restaurants? It's a real pity that we just discovered the Chomkluen this spring.
