Many stories of flooding popping up after the tropical storm passed.....

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general ... recent_box

Schools closed, pigs swept away by floods

Six schools in Chaiyaphum's Muang district were closed and businesses shut their doors on Monday due to flooding caused by tropical depression Doksuri.

The municipal area was inundated, with low-lying areas under water a metre deep. Many shop owners closed up and took the day off.

With many streets impassable for small vehicles, motorists were advised to avoid the downtown area.

According to local officials, flooding had affected about 300 households. They were being provided immediate relief help with drinking water, sanitation, medicine and food.

Water pumps were deployed to drain water in the heart of the town into the Chee river, which was expected to be completed in a few days if there is no more rain.

Chaiyaphum is among 12 provinces battered by flooding triggered by storm Doksuri over the weekend.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said heavy rain during Sept 15-17 caused runoff and overflow in 12 provinces - Kalasin, Sakon Nakhon, Loei, Phrae, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Chaiyaphum, Satun and Phangnga.

While the flood situation in some of these provinces was improving, seven were still battling. In addition to Chaiyaphum, they are Phitsanulok, Kalasin, Phetchabun, Chiang Rai, Lampang and Satun.

In Phitsanulok's Wang Thong district, dozens of pigs were drowned or swept away when a flood barrier collapsed on Monday morning, allowing water from the Wang Thong river to flood through the farm.

Montha Saimangthong, the 48-year-old owner of the farm, said the earth dyke was breached about 6am. She was caught off guard and watched helplessly as her pigs were swept away by the water.

Fortunately, help arrived shortly after, with neighbours, local officials and soldiers coming to her aid.

Ms Montha said she had more than 200 pigs. Only about 150 had been rescued.

She estimated the loss at around 250,000 baht, as each pig should fetch around 5,000 baht. She expected to recoup some of the money because local traders would buy the fresh carcasses at 1,000 baht each.

There are small stories like this everyday that I don't post. The situation in the Northeast and North is festering like a boil and all hell will break loose if there are a few more storms. :( , as well as the flow and level in the Chao Phraya heading south.

Swollen with rain and runoff from the North, the Yom River was still rising on Wednesday, threatening to reach the second storeys of already flooded homes in one Phichit village.

Pheun Nuchmaew, a resident of Ban Koh Sarika (Moo 4) in Tambon Rang Nok, Sam Ngam district, said the floodwater was only a metre from her home’s second floor. Twenty homes along the river in the village have been inundated for some time and conditions are worsening. The low-laying terrain brings flooding every year.

Warning of heavy rain and flooding along Chao Phraya River
Breaking News October 08, 2017 11:21
By The Nation http://www.nationmultimedia.com/detail/ ... s/30328750

The Royal Irrigation Department is urgently diverting run-off water out to the sea in preparation for imminent big downpours in the coming week.

The water-management plan being implemented now means some low-lying areas downstream of the Chao Phraya Dam will face rising floodwaters.

“From Chai Nai down to Ayutthaya province, areas without embankment along the Chao Phraya River will see the floodwater level rise by 30 to 80 centimetres,” the department’s deputy director general Thongpleaw Kongjun said on Sunday.

As of Sunday, the Chao Phraya River has overflowed in Nakhon Sawan province causing floods. The U-turn spot under the Dechatiwong Bridge was closed due to rising floodwaters.

The Meteorological Department has predicted that rainfall in the country will increase between October 9 and 13, with heavy downpours in many areas including Bangkok and its adjacent provinces.

Floods feared as monsoon sweeps in

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... -sweeps-in

Authorities are diverting part of the Chao Phraya River into irrigation channels and low-lying fields in a bid to halt rising water levels, with more torrential rain expected this week.

Somkiat Prajamwong, director-general of the Royal Irrigation Department (RID), said a monsoon was expected over the next couple of days in the Central Plains and the East, while a low-pressure system would pass through the Northeast and upper Central Plains. Accordingly, more rain, including heavy downpours, is forecast during this period....

:D You are right, I also forget that the road sort of splits just after the bridge, but it splits again a bit further along so I don't really know what soi I live in. It's a very exclusive area though. To reach it you just drive past the water delivery man's house where he fills up his delivery vehicles from the municipal water supply on his property. A few hundred meters along you will pass a place with a lush green lawn and a large pond belonging to a person from the waterboard. Continue on about 200 meters and you will be entering the Borfai Sahara.

The lack of water is totally understandable though because we have told it is due to a fault with the main supply line and a pump. To make matters even worse, it is a major fault which they have been working on for about 9 years already.

Bangkok City Hall on flood alert as Chao Phraya rises

Published: 11/10/2017 at 05:24 PM
Online news: https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... raya-rises

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is keeping a close watch on the water level of the Chao Phraya River as the flood surge from the North flows through the capital.

Deputy city clerk Sompong Wiengkaew said on Wednesday City Hall expects the river level to peak at 2,500 cubic metres per second on Oct 19.

Downpours over most of the country caused the Royal Irrigation Department to order dams to release more water into the Chao Phraya.

The level at the measuring station in Bang Sai district of Ayutthaya -- the main place used to check the flow to Bangkok -- was about 2,000 cu/m on Wednesday.

The BMA is preparing more sandbags for reinforcement of the river's banks, and all riverside districts have been warned to stay vigilant around the clock, the BMA official added.

"The BMA is following the situation and coordinating with other agencies 24 hours," he said, adding that the situation is still under control.

The Chao Phraya Dam in Chai Nat and Pasak Jolasid Dam in Lop Buri are two key dams affecting the lower basin of the Chao Phraya.

The Chao Phraya Dam will release water at up to 2,600 cu/m for another week, deputy Irrigation Department director-general Thongplaew Kongchan said on Tuesday.

Pasak Jolasid is releasing more water from the Pa Sak River as rain continues upstream, he said.

The Meteorological Department on Wednesday warned of heavy rain in some areas in the northeastern, central, eastern and southern regions, as well as Bangkok, until next Tuesday.
