Both malls were very busy, but IMHO Market Village took it, especially with the Chang Beer Festival taking place at the same time.

Yes, I think this must be the best effort since I've lived here.

Although I despise the commercialization of Christmas, I do love to see pretty decorations, and those are impressive. Twinkling lights just put me in a good mood (even though I can be bah humbuggy about Xmas).

Totally agree (apart from being "humbuggy" - I'm one of those sad Christmassy people!). Not been in HH for a while unfortunately, but always enjoyed the lights on the road leading up to the Rail Station and the Station itself.

For a country that does not celebrate Christmas, I see the displays as a means of generating more foot traffic (and therein more sales revenue) for that particular venue. It starts too early in the year as well, with some places having the decorations up mid-November.

For me, the spirit of Christmas left a long time ago. I used to love going shopping for presents that would eventually end up under the Christmas tree, as would other members of the family. There would always be a carload of presents for friends when we went visiting, and the food!! Christmas cards would be purchased and address books would be scoured for current addresses, both local and overseas. Plus the joy of receiving those cards! Midnight mass, the spirit of Christmas, not really with us any more in this digital age..

The church here does not have a midnight service any more, one more nail...

Though I still will pick up the phone and call Mum to wish her, these days usually Christmas morning as at her age midnight mass is no longer an option.

Still great if you have younger children or grandchildren around, it does make for a nice picture setting. Don't forget to make a print or three, I still have some photos more than three decades old but most of my digital media has gone the way of the dinosaur and can't be accessed.

I always smile when in the mall I hear them singing about rides in a --One horse open sleigh. In all my years in Thai I have never seen a OHOS.

The commercialization of xmas began a long, long time ago, when the first person bought the first xmas present.

Frankincense and myrhh could be made at home and the gold may have been gift, purchased earlier for some other reason. "One never knows, do one?"

The 3 wise men from the east may have been the 3 Wiseman brothers from eastern Europe.
