You will not be able to hire any Aircraft to fly yourself, without going through the whole process of obtaining a Thai Licence.

The Civil Aviation Training School is based at Hua Hin, and they operate around 30 aircraft. Most of them, including a twin engine, are modern "Diamond" trainers. They also have a solitary C172 that is on line most of the time. The single engine Diamonds go out at 10,000 Baht per hour, the C172 8,500 Baht, including Instructor.

If you go there they are a friendly lot and security is pretty lax. The entrance to the Training School is next to the old aircraft on display, and the guards will probably want you to leave some ID with them. Ask for K. Anand, he can probably arrange something for you.

Hi There

My friend has a FAA PPL and has rented, on 2 occassions, a plane from Chonburi. Not sure, but think he needed to have the instructor in the plane (4 seater)

Yes, Thai Flying Club at Bangpra would do this. However, to go solo he would need to convert his FAA licence to a Thai PPL.
