No Mail

Post by poosmate »

I have noticed I am receiving no mail for the last two months. This came to light when 3bb telephoned me to remind me of a unpaid bill. I am in Hin Lek Fai. Yesterday I spoke to the local postman who informed me that the local postie had been off sick for the last two months. He says he now only delivers EMS and leaves the normal mail at the office!
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a complaints procedure? Does it get any results?
The postman says that there is a shortage of staff and a high turnover due to hard work!
3bb says it is a very common problem but their responsibility ends when they post the bill.
I am going to go into the post office to see if I can find my missing mail and 35 other houses on my development. :banghead:

Take a visit to the second floor of the Post Office and view the huge pile of undelivered mail.

I've found that my mail from the UK takes an average of 4 weeks to reach me here in Thailand.

You can't odds it really.

I had a Birthday card sent from Cha Am in mid April, arrived about 10 days ago.

I had a letter with photos inside, sent from UK on 8th June, arrived on the 13th.

Xmas card sent by my brother in Canada arrived in March.

Parcels are always a no no, especially around Christmas or the New Year, I have never had one delivered or found, family now always use a courier parcel service, never the post office route.

It appears that it is just a local Hua Hin problem, as I never have a problem with items sent to me at my Bangkok Condo. A recent purchase from EBay UK on Sunday night had the item in my Condo the following Friday. From Australia it is never more than 10 days.

All the mail coming into Thailand is cleared through the mail center in Chaeng Wattana Rd. in Bangkok. I don`t know what you can do about it. Years ago there used to be a lady that spoke English that you could call in Bangkok, and she would follow up on any problems, but I guess she has retired now. Whatever you call it, it is downright disgusting that such a simple service cannot be provided in a country that is the "hub" of SE Asia! :guns:

As Nereus says, never had a problem with mail delivery at my Bangkok address.

Besides receiving, I also have a problem with mail sent from Hua Hin. A week before last Xmas, I took 19 Xmas cards to Hua Hin Post Office. They were addressed to location in Thailand and abroad. To this day, none have been received by the addressees.

As for incoming, most received that I am aware of... but definitely 5 missing from over 2 months ago, including 1 Registered.

Who to complain to? Every time I inquire at the Post Office, I get a blank look. Same goes for our Thai speaking staff that have asked.

Hmm I had some bits sent to me a couple of weeks ago; arrived within 14 days. It was addressed to the hotel my girlfriend works at, though. I wonder if the big chains get priority?

It's hit and miss... I had sticky labels made at the little graphics shop down 47/1. Both in Thai and English, I gave then to relatives and people for Compaines I deal with, when used never an incoming problem. The flip side sending mail overseas using the post office or EMS is a complete nightmare. But T.I.T i guess

It's probably a postman problem as in all the years I've had a PO Box I'm not aware of anything that's gone missing.
That's not to say that it hasn't. It's just that everything important has arrived from the UK, usually within 7-10 days.

Having a PO box has helped with our mail greatly but we have still had parcels disappear.

Yes a Po box is great but 7 years ago when I rocked up there were no PO box mail boxes available so they told me at the likes of the post office or G supermarket. Also parcels sent you usually say whats inside on the label outside ... thats a bit of a clue for the postman

They throw away mail. Its a crime in most countries. We pay the postage fees, and they still throw it away.

Whoever is in charge of the post office must be the family member of a very influential figure to retain the job.

Thanks to your wisdom in general and especially your knowledge of Thai culture and society the mystery of the missing mail is finally solved. Thank you. Thank you.

They throw it away in the UK too. Well, dump it. Saw a documentary about it once.
