Looking for CHEAP 2nd hand bicycle

Post by Wado-Karate »

I'm looking for somewhere that sells 2nd hand bicycles. I don't need anything special, an upright 'granny' bike with no gears and shopping basket in the front would be fine, although a little more sophistication would also suit. The key thing is to build my leg muscles, without paying too much.

I used to know of 2 places - 1 on the road between Sois 88 and 94, and 1 near the railway station. I've checked this morning and neither are there.

Any shop in a 20 mile radius would be considered.

Thanks in anticipation.

How about this one John?
120,000thb beach bike as advertised on a popular Thai classified website.

Usual Suspect is the very man to ask however he is up North on a skirmish just now but should be back later in the week. I will ask him for you.
Cheers,
GN.

Interesting looking bike, but for 120,000 I'd expect at least 120cc to help push it along!!

Would be a really good workout along the sand and I'm sure the bike would be ideal but way too pang for something you would get bored of (same beach) pretty soon. I'll stick to running on the beach for now.

There is a bike shop on the left about halfway to Cha Am on the West side of Petchkasem Rd.
Lots of fancy bikes in there. I think they rebuild old bikes, so may have what you want.

Thanks TTM. I've just been up there, but didn't realise I'd need a mortgage from the bank first. The cheapest they had was 9,500Baht for something I'd have paid £60 to £70 in the UK for. I tried to talk them down, but they wouldn't drop below 8,000Baht. For what I'm looking for I could buy new for that sort of money.

Next stop, Nereus' suggestion.

They do seem quite pricey here and even worse have you seen the Chinese rubbish they sell in tesco.

I am going to buy a decent one on e bay and have it shipped over.

I suggest the next time you're in Bangkok to take a walk around the Klong Thom area. My brother-in-law picked up a refurbished 'granny-style' second-hand Japanese import, if I remember right was around the 2,000+ ish mark. Some guy at work also came in on an old Raleigh (seriously!) he had picked up secondhand as well. This was a couple of weeks ago in Bangkok.

Some guys at work have a ad-hoc bike club, but with the bikes they use you'll need to mortgage your house. If your partner speaks Thai go look on the Thai-language secondhand website, you can pick up some local bargains there.

Thanks Sarge, that's just the job. I've just been and got one.

OK, I know it won't last me a lifetime, but neither would have a 2nd hand one. It was a third of the Hua Hin 2nd Hand price, and probably twice the bike.

Hi, do you know if the bike shop in Pranburi will deliver? I'd like to get a bike, but short of walking there from Hua Hin, I'd have to rent a motor scooter to reach the store and I'm not sure how I'd get back with both.
