I have searched a number of shipping companies but don't have that much I wish to bring, no car, no furniture, just clothing, personal items and golf clubs. No more than 100 kg. Oh yea maybe Harry, my dog, but not sure about him yet.
For 100kg have you considered just paying excess baggage fees, not including Harry of course it will cost plenty to bring him here.
If not excess baggage you can send stuff by parcel post this is fine when not so much stuff and as for clothing why even bother just buy new here.

That's easier said than done for large folks. I've searched here and Bangkok for ten years and only rarely found anything that fits me, and most of those were very poor quality and wore out fast.

I mainly am still wearing high quality (Ocean Pacific) shorts and (J. Crew) T-shirts that I brought here from the U.S. 10 years ago. I brought about 20 pairs of shorts and 40 T's and I'm glad I did.

Funny thing about the quality. Some of the clothes from the U.S.A. that I've been wearing for so many years say "Made in Thailand" on the label, yet the fit better and last longer than anything I can find here. I guess they export all the good and big stuff.

I received the estimate from them and initially it seems a bit pricey but, it is door to door. Looks like the minimum space is about 1/4 of small container, about 20' x 8' x 8'. I'll keep looking and let everybody know what I discover.

Looks like I'll be traveling with bags in hand. The cost is about 64,000 baht for 500 lbs. plus duties and import fees. Sounds kind of high to me but what do I know. Good thing I've got a year to sell all my stuff off. Will be good to downsize ... I am such a pack rat

Did you actually contact Seven Seas? They are a shipping company, and don't just ship to where they have offices, so collection might be possible from elsewhere as well. If they can't help, maybe they know somebody who can.

Big Boy I checked the seven seas website again and you are correct. They do ship from the US. It's about 1/2 of what I was quoted, which is a little more acceptable. I will contact them by phone and verify what I was quoted. Not sure what I was looking at the other day. Guess I was on the wrong site. Thanks again LTID

Anybody ever bring their pet with them?

Re: Items to bring when moving to Thailand

[Mod Edit] Edited to move question to appropriate thread..............I am coming out end of September from UK and want to send a couple of boxes of 'personal stuff' to arrive after I get there. Any recommendations for a fair priced shipper company would be appreciated. I have had one UK company come back with £150 for 15 kilo. It will only be some personal stuff but I think closer to 30 kilo........I am travelling EVAair out of Heathrow and luggage allowance is only 20kilo with their overweight costing at $45 per kilo.

Regards

It would be worth considering your airline next time..... Emirates gives me 30 kg + 15 kg frequent flyer + 8 kg hand luggage + golf bag ( unlimited)

robcar, it may be that your quote sounded expensive because you were not shipping enough. I know Seven Seas had a minimum charge, which equated to about the same as shipping 3 x 20Kg tea chests (don't remember exactly). So shipping just 30Kg might mean that you are paying what seems to be twice as much i.e. you have to pay for 60Kg regardless of how little you send.

If you upgrade to what I think was called Evagreen delux ( business seat with economy service) which was around GBP 750 instead of 550 do you get an extra baggage allowance? Or do they charge for Golf bags
Or
Does joining their frequent flyer programme give you any benefits?

I'm pretty sure when I was investigating this service you get an extra 10K allowance. Better check, though, and not take my word as gospel.

Is it really business seats? That's a really good deal then. I thought it was just economy seats with a bit of extra legroom.

I haven't used them for about 6 years, but the seats were much the same as business, but that was before most airlines improves them to bed- seats. We used to think it was worth the upgrade, I guess if it gave you 10. Kg more you could do it one way?

As far as I am aware, EVA Elite Deluxe allowance is 25kg (55 lb) which is only 5kg extra. The upgrade may be worth it for the extra leg room but forget it if the intention is to gain the additional baggage allowance.

Just looked at the website, EVA seem particularly tight with their allowances...no golf bag either!
