shipping personal property

Does anyone have experience shipping personal property from the US to Thailand? I live near Philadelphia and would guess Bangkok would be the best port of entry? I have searched a number of shipping companies but don't have that much I wish to bring, no car, no furniture, just clothing, personal items and golf clubs. No more than 100 kg. Oh yea maybe Harry, my dog, but not sure about him yet.

I'm concerned that Harry will go on one of his runabouts and get lost. Never has caught onto the concept of walking, it's either full tilt onward or sleeping. Doesn't seem to be any middle ground for him. He's always come back after his venture but, with the attention span of a pencil I'm not sure about him.
Anyway back to shipping goods. Anyone?

Not sure what Visa you will entering on, makes a difference whether your personal goods are subject to duty (tourist, O-A, O, Ed) or duty free (work visa, marriage visa [assuming your wife brings in the goods from your country].
You might review Cusom's website to see where you fit: search for customs dot go dot th household.


That said, sea freight sells partial containers, but the cost is pretty steep - ~$2500 for 200 square feet, so unless you bring in furnishings, it won't pay and you probably should consider an air freight shipper. You can try looking at some forwarder's page such as siaminternational dot com

Have a look on google for a company called Pack'n'Send, they are Australian but used them for stuff from my house in Spain to here in Thailand via UK. Not sure if have in the states. They deal with everything. I addressed to my wife had her put on the documentation and had no problems at Bkk airport. i only sent about 40 kilos but they deal at all weights I believe.

Any of the large moving companies in the U.S. can do it, although it may not be worth it for 200kg. We used one of the big movers like United Van Lines (I don't remember exactly which one, but all the big ones do it) to ship an entire container full of furniture and personal effects. You can get half a container or smaller I think and share a container with someone else shipping this way. The U.S. mover came to our house, packed everything, loaded the container in the street right in front, and sealed it. It was then taken to the port of Miami and shipped to the port of Bangkok where they partnered with Hong Kong Transpac on this end who walked our container through customs and delivered/unpacked it at our Hua Hin address. They specialize in getting things from anywhere in the world to Thailand.

You might contact Hong Kong Transpac directly and see if they can handle the whole thing since it is so small.

We used these guys for a couple of shipments from China to the UK - excellent service IMHO.

My only gripe was door to door actually meant door to tailgate. The driver sat in the coolness of his cab with the engine running, and only appeared to take a photo of the unloaded boxes and to collect his tip. Of course, the lazy git did not get one Baht for a tip.

I don't think this should put anybody off. I think our delivery driver was simply lazy. The guy who collected in the UK would not accept any help whatsoever.

I think you'll find that's the case, in China we were asked before collection to ensure boxes were at the front gate (not a problem) and as you experienced, on the UK side the driver would not accept any help (or tip) and carried all boxes upstairs to store...... where they still are now after several months

Thank you all. I'm not sure what type of visa I'll have yet but I am planning on retirement in HH. No wife, just me and the Tasmanian devil dog. Some of these I checked, seven seas not in the northeast US yet. Off to work now so I'll let you know what I discover and any other experiences are welcome

I will be facing similar problem. Some leftover 6 years ago should be sorted and picked up from Melbourne. Any suggestions? Those are all personal belongings e.g. 3 boxes of Lego, albums, trophies etc. How about import tax for used stuff?

Our plan is to rent something first and build something later on. What are the storage possibilities in Hua Hin?

So far I've found only 1 site that provides a checklist and estimates the volume and weight. Most are looking for at least 1/2 of a 20' container. I don't know if I can post this so please remove it if I am not allowed.

Never heard of or seen any storage facilities in HH, there will be some in Bangkok. What you can do is rent a small shop 6k Baht a month if you really need to store.
