Refrigerator repair shop?
Hi all, bought a new fridge about a yr and a half ago and now it's not staying cold anymore, but the freezer on bottom works fine. Anyone out there know of a good repairman or shop out there that can actually fix it?
Thanks a lot!
Thanks a lot!
Re: Refrigerator repair shop?
Hi Sally, it sounds as though the air feed from the freezer to the fridge is blocked (build up of ice ?). I had this problem a few years ago, and fixed it myself simply by defrosting the freezer. Hope this helps.

Re: Refrigerator repair shop?
Maybe, the fridge is still cool but only 18. Making a strange high pitched sound when the compressor comes on if you put your ear to it. Maybe we'll put our stuff in the neighbors and unplug it for the night and see if it clears the ice.....will keep you posted,
Thanks a lot!

Re: Refrigerator repair shop?
It's definitely worth a try. Clear all the frost and ice you find in the freezer compartment once you have emptied it.
Re: Refrigerator repair shop?
Could also be that rodents got to it. They love the heat behind the fridge and sometimes nest there. They also love the plastic coating on the wires, so you may have a short. Finally, ants love the printed circuit board inside the controlbox and can eat parts there. I know - unfortunately from own experience.
This happened in our house in Sakaeow - out in the boondogs. Luckily traveling electricians, plummers, carpenters etc. etc. visit the village from time to time, and our electrician had a new printboard that fit our fridge. Presto, 600 Baht, and the fridge runs like new.
In Hua Hin, you should try fo find a small local shop that can help you. I´m sorry, I don´t know where.
Good Luck!

Re: Refrigerator repair shop?
So now emptied and unplugged 24 hrs. Cleaned in all ways possible.
Plugged back in again and unopened for 12 hrs. 8c. compressor running the entire time. Put back in cold stuff from neighbors house, gone for a few hrs. back up to 15c+ freezer on bottom ok.
Not happy, I think it's been about the same performance since we got it and always wondered why most of the vents inside were closed by Styrofoam. We asked the guy that delivered it ( Big Kiang) if that was the reason it never cold enough( switched out 2 when we got it now on #3) but he said t it was supposed to be that way. We have looked at other ones and never seen the vents blocked like this...maybe the energy saving feature?
Well I say it's crap! Not sure if it's an energy saving thing or if Hitachi is just a shit brand! Maybe 22,00

Re: Refrigerator repair shop?
I once had another problem with a fridge. I could´nt get it below 14 c. After all tests produced negative results I set my iPhone on video and placed it in the fridge a few seconds. When playing back the video it turned out that the light bulb did not turn off when the door was closed. The lamp gives off quite a good deal of heat and therefore the fridge could not cope. A coin taped to the inner door opposite the switch did the trick, and the fridge went down to normal.expatsally wrote:So now emptied and unplugged 24 hrs. Cleaned in all ways possible.

Re: Refrigerator repair shop?
I have a fridge freezer (whirlpool) and over the last couple of days I've found the freezer will only freeze water but nothing else. Obviously it must hit zero to be able to make ice but other foods need a deeper freeze than that. Won't even freeze bread!
Does anyone know if this is a simple repair or is it time to get a new one?

Re: Refrigerator repair shop?
At least some years ago there was a good, reliable refrigeration repair shop on the Pala-U Road.
He also made house-calls and at that time his prices were OK and he did good work.
His telephone number was at the time: 0815711698, but I do not know is this still is valid.
Maybe someone else can help?

You are right he is still there but I do not think he will collect so one has to get it to him.
Another man who we have used and does come to the house, checks the problem and takes it away. His tel 0894548190 but Thai only spoken. He is a nice man and inexpensive.

I have both Whirlpool fridge/freezer and dishwasher. Recently dishwasher had a fault and Whirlpool Bangkok put me in contact with their local agent a Mr Yuttana yuttana.asc@gmail.com. Or contact Ms.Veeraya Tel.081-9416044 or 032-417199. They are also agents for other brands. I sent a map and they do home visits.
Very good service, not much English.
Back to topic, I have been very pleased with the Whirlpool fridge freezer (side by side model). In six years I have never had to defrost it, it's half the power consumption of far eastern models, much thicker insulation and nearly impossible to re-open door within a 2 min period until internal pressure equalizes, so you know its working hard. For once the U.S. has got it right.
However, this said, I have at times had the same problems of food not freezing.
I found the cure, don't overload the top shelf and block the free passage of cold air to the lower ones, food on the top shelf will also "freezer burn" in a short time span.
Hope this helps

Re: Refrigerator repair shop?
Thanks for your help. It's certainly not an overloading problem. I will make a couple of calls now.
I've never had any problems with Whirlpool so I would recommend them. (This fridge/freezer is now over 10 years old). This problem happened very suddenly and as there is nothing else wrong I will try for a repair before considering buying a new one.

Happy 10 years anniversary. Consider yourself lucky. Ten years ago household appliances were made to last only about six years.
Today, many household appliances, TVs, PCs, printers and other electronics (some say even cars) have built in a chip that will make them break down after a certain period of time, or for printers, after a certain number of copies.
We must keep the economy going.....

Re: Refrigerator repair shop?
Thanks for all your input. I was given a number of a local guy who will visit and fix on the spot. He certainly knows his stuff. He came with testing kit and quickly identified a small winding that was faulty. Off he went to buy one and the fridge/freezer is now working fine. Total cost 1,500 bt.
I'm sure he won't mind me recommending him.
His number is 086 3756 758
