Shipping UK To Thailand

Post by kendo »

Any recommendations for shipping a large box to Thailand. We are going to become grandparents next March and if it's cost effective we want to ship our daughters pram and other baby related items over in a large box about a cubic metre.
Also if the items are all used can they still shaft me with import tax.

I really could not believe the price of prams in Market Village the Greco one's are almost double the UK price .

Kendo.

The answer is unfortunately yes. 18 months ago i shipped a couple of boxes of old tools, many of which i had made myself, as an apprentice, there were also a range of early 20th century carpenters tools (decoration pieces) I was charged import duty and vat based on current estimated prices NEW!!

Have a look at these people http://www.sevenseasworldwide.com/ They are currently shipping 2x30kg boxes of stuff for me from UK to Thailand door to door. The price including the supply of the boxes was around £160.

This was a recommendation that originated from this forum so a big thankyou from me to whoever suggested them

When you ship like this, and if you have a Thai wife who has lived a little overseas, can you claim it's hers and avoid the tax?

Sorry Kendo if these don't apply to you and I'm off topic!!

Yes, there is a period that she will have to have been away for though.

Kendo, if you go the Seven Seas route, it shouldn't be a problem, but you would have to obtain a bespoke price. A cubic metre isn't part of their standard pricing structure.

You could get away with repatriation, but you would then need another qualifying period before you would get away with it again.

This would be a one off to make good use of our baby stuff will a company guarantee no import tax in their quote if going to declare it on the manifest as repatriation of personal effects.

Everything we shipped was in Mrs BB's name, and we had to provide copies of Thai passport pages. Seven seas did the rest - no hassle apart from taking twice as long as stated.

Why not try to buy a good second hand one in Thailand? There must be a few available. Maybe put an advert in the classified.

Hi Siani we already have all the baby stuff as we have a three year old daughter be good to pass it all on to my Stepson and will also help unclutter my garage.

Can you believe a Greco pram I looked at in Market Village was 2500baht  and most Thai baby stuff is shockingly poor quality.
