Bringing stuff from the states in wifes name

Post by migrant »

I've learned here on the forum that if you bring over items in the Thai wife's name there is no import tax since it's a repatriation I believe (please correct me if wrong).

My question is if this applies to bigger ticket items like a motorcycle, or only household items like "her" tools, etc

Thanks!

Only household items and personal property. Duty is payable on any new items.
Vehicles would need an import licence and the import tax is very very high.

I don't think that's true. They are restricted goods and can only be imported under certain conditions. e.g. a returning Thai who must obtain an import licence and prove ownership of a car for at least 1.5 years before shipping.

However the tax is so high (up to 300% of the value assessed in Thailand) it makes it almost prohibitive.
