Where can I get spare water tank lids?

Post by MLS »

Some fiend has made off with the tops of my two water tanks, grrrr. I tried buying replacements in Global, HomePro and Thaiwatsadu but the staff all looked at me as if I was I was asking them for a wrap of smack (I can’t believe they don't stock spare lids but there you go) and I’ve also enquired at a couple of small places that sell tanks but no success. I've covered the open tank tops with plastic bags as a temporary measure, but, before my water supply gets polluted with bird shite or a dead rodent or whatever, does anyone know where else I can try?
Thanks!

Never seen just the lids for sale, good luck. I would probably craft some new ones using wood, and paint them well with oil based paint for durability.

If I were you, I would try ask/looking around at the scrap collecting places. There are several of these places, and I would say they are your best bet.

Find a guttering contractor, he will make them up out of stainless steel or galvanised. Sorry, I no longer have a contact number.

I managed to get one from Big Kiang after the top of a palm tree landed on it. I think they charged about 450 baht. I normally avoid buying anything from there but unfortunately it was the only place I could find that sells them.

Probably not of much use after the top of a palm tree landed on it! :rasta:

Obviously I don't know what your tanks look like so this might be a stupid idea but maybe you could use a piece of concrete tile made for driveways and such as a lid?

Pic of the lid purchased from Big Kiang. They had a couple of different types at the time

Thanks for your replies, much appreciated. Following Bluesky's suggestion I’ve been to Big Kiang today but as they don’t stock my ('Magma' brand) tanks they 'Cannot!'' order the lids for them, so I'll measure up and see if any of the ones they can get would work - even if not a perfect fit, with some tweaking must be better than my plastic bags tied down on the tops temporary fix - or I'll suss out one of the other suggestions. And then maybe position sneaky razor blades or a scorpion nest on top of my tanks to fend off future thievery. (I know, I’m taking it too personally...!)

I gather it is similar to one in the pic. As a temporary measure it may be worth trip to the 20 baht shop and get a cheap plastic tub to put over the opening to keep the unwanteds out. Perhaps a dummy camera with a flashing LED might be a future deterrent

Just for closure I’d like to say thanks all, especially BlueSky, and to StevePIraq for the link - hoping to get a reply to my email, and if no joy will cobble something together following the other suggestions.
