Books/ DVDs etc Swap 23 April 2011 @ 3pm

Post by huahinjim »

Hi Everybody,

Next book swap scheduled for 3pm Saturday 23 April 2011 at Dick's Office*.

I would have preferred an earlier date but unfortunately on the 9th the Beach Polo championships are taking place at the beach at the Intercontinental (see viewtopic.php?f=4&t=17605 )
and on the 16th Dick's Office advises that Songkran may still be underway.

* Dick's Office is several hundred yards/ metres on left hand side of Soi 80 going up the Soi from Petchkasem Road

Hope to see you there!

Jim

PS - Dick's Office make no charge to us for using the bar. Dick and the staff come in early for us and always make us welcome. So it would be nice (but not compulsory of course!!) if attendees bought a drink, even a bottle of water or soft drink, to show our appreciation. (This is my suggestion and NOT from the bar.)

I dont fancy swapping books with myself as I know I've read them all.

So due to underwhelming response I will CANCEL this swap. I will let Dick's Office know Tuesday when I am next in Hua Hin.

I'll bring a few more books than usual, just in case there aren't so many people this time.

This is such a good arrangement, it would be daft to let it fold.

My concern was that after several weeks noone had posted to say they would be there. It would be unfair to Dick's Office to have them get staff in early to open up and then have nobody turn up.

Well said Dtaai Maai. It's not only good to get some new books but also good to meet other BMs.

IceBear - bit of a tight squeeze on that bike of yours! But all welcome!

Any advance on 3 + IceBear's staff? :D

Can't promise I'll make it but I'll try... have quite a few books for trade though if I do.

BTW, I'm a pretty picky reader. What if people want my books but have nothing I am interested in swapping for? A beer per book perhaps? :D :D :D
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I will give it a go.

I have a bunch of books.

Here is a few titles I will bring.

John Grisham 'The Confession'
'The Associate'
Joesph Wambaugh 'Fire Lover'
'Hollywood Crows'
Mark Bowden 'Road Work'

'Life of Pi'
'Lone Survivor'
'Krakatoa'

I've never been to one of these but perhaps some titles will entice the flock.

I'll try to make it. Don't have many books with me, but might be able to convert some used books into moderate amounts of moolah :)

Good question for the uninitiated :) . I was around for the first swaps about 3 years ago, then missed over a year until recently. Jim's the driving force right now.
As far as I'm aware there have never been any hard and fast rules, and nobody's interested how many you bring or how many you take. Within reason, of course! Unswapped books are left for the next swap, (left at the bar, or do you hold on to them, Jim?)

On a personal note, I have several hundred novels, so if anyone wants to have a look and swap or borrow some, please feel free to get in touch.

There's not usually much sci-fi/fantasy, which I enjoy - so if anyone has any...

... and I meant to add, as an example, that if I took 10 books to the swap and only found 5 I wanted to read, I wouldn't pick 5 of my 10 up to take back home with me! Next time, it might well be the other way round.

Thanks for all the interest! Looks like we'll have a lively hour or 2.

Just as Dtaai-Maai says - no rules! Noone checks/ counts what you bring or what you take.

So......
.....Bring your books/ dvds; place them on the tables; select any books/dvds you fancy; buy a drink (not compulsory!!) and have a chat (again not compulsory but nice if you say hello).

There usually are some books left and these are either added to Dick's Office 'library' or I will take them and return them next time. I dont have spare space at home to store dozens of books and nor does Dick's Office. If you take as many as you bring there should be none left :D !

Sorry bcrglobal but there are no payments for the books - just swaps! If you want to convert to cash there are several shops around town who will take them off your hands.

hhfarang - like it!! Don't think you'll get many takers though

TonyM - be good to see you Saturday.

And all others are welcome too.

Cheers
Jim

Hi Jim,

Maybe I have to rent a car to bring all my books. How do you think?

Happy that you had patience with all of us and still arranged a book swap.

See you there......

(keep it in the headlines...)
