Sounds like more malware, run that Spybot again. What browser are you using BTW?

Hello Buksida,

I changed my internet homepage from Bing to Google.uk.co, and the Suggested Sites disappeared!

Obviously come with Bing!

Kind regards,

I thought I had a virus but now not so sure. How does a laptop respond to high temperatures?. The last few days I've experienced my keyboard doing it's own thing and ringing bells. Seemed OK in the evening. So today I elevated the back of my laptop and directed a fan up it's bum. Seemed OK then. Thought the temperature tolerance of my machine (HP Pavilion) was higher but obviously like me it's suffering in it's old age. Next time I clean it I'll mix up some of my warfarin and thin it's blood down

Any of you gurus have experiences of `this`or some good advice?

Don't want to buy one of those cooling pads as I don't ````````````````````````````kn``````````````````````````````````````````````ow```` how effective they are````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
There it goes again. Have checked keyboard in word and all working OK

I had the overheating problem on one of my older laptops. Bought a Tesco cooling pad (less than 200 Baht from memory), and no problem since.

I'm now beginning to think it is keyboard. This character````keeps repeating in scripts and sounds a bell whether I'm in Google search in all my browsers or sending emails.

 Might be my overzealous cleaning three days ago  I'll poke around tomorrow when it's bright enough

Is the cooling pad you speak of a little thing you sit your laptop on and it has a fan or two powered by the USB from the laptop?

If it is I've got one for my little notebook type laptop which does seem to get hot easily and it works very well, the difference is palpable around the touch pad. Definitely recommended.

Well, BB,

I now suspect a dodgy key on my keyboard as the repeating interfering character shown is seemingly throwing a wobbly. I'll clean it tomorrow when it's light and report back :)

I've told you before about using a plate, rather than your keyboard when making jam butties. :D

:lach: Well BB, I do have a tendency to eat a few sweets at night when keyboarding but today lifted a few keys around the suspected offending key and all was clean and tidy. Then tried isolating applications running and strangely enough if I knocked out VUSE it ceased. Reloaded VUSE and if went into character diarrhea mode.

Removed VUSE and loaded the latest version. Same Diarrhea reaction. Now I'm thinking it may be a file I'm downloading using VUSE

Any ideas anybody?

With the laptop turned off try pressing the '`' key. Does it feel different to the others? It's possible theres actually something stuck underneath it.

It could just be a hardware defect. I also had a problem with an '`' key on an EEe laptop once. First I thought there was something underneath it. I kept trying to clear out underneath and it seemed to help for a while but then kept coming back. Eventually I just ripped the key off. After a couple of days a different key started doing the same thing. Ripped that off which left me ok for another couple of days...

I wouldn't suggest going down that route though! You could probably order a replacement keymat and have somebody fit that for you. In the meantime you can always use an external keyboard, and disable the built in one via device manager.

Pleng, I cleaned and looked underneath several keys.

Once again it's gone. BUT I rebooted and have not loaded Vuse yet

Will give another run and then head for a health check. Anybody recommend anybody?

Look back on this thread. Buksida sent lomuamart to a well respected guy a few months ago. I've heard a few people recommend him.
