Buying a new laptop
Re: Buying a new laptop
Wife currently uses a Dell Vostro which was supplied by the company she contracts to about 12 months ago. 95% of her work is done from home where she has a good quality wireless Keyboard and Mouse along with an eye friendly remote monitor. She is generally working on it 5 days a week for 8 hours a day. It does get a fairly good workout. So far it has not missed a beat.

Re: Buying a new laptop
Hello,
I'm looking into buying a new laptop and so have resurrected this old thread on the topic. After visiting a few shops in Market Village and Blueport they seem a little expensive! There are still a lot of 4GB RAM on offer. I'm after something like:
-8GB RAM
- 512 GB+ storage
- Upto 2KG weight and screen around 300mm by 200mm
- Windows 10
- As many USB ports as possible and HDMI socket.
Any thoughts on best place to buy? I can be flexible on the above. If anyone has any recent experience in buying a laptop/notebook I would love to hear from you.
Robin

Re: Buying a new laptop
Some will sneer at my recomendation but here goes.
A few years ago I lent my Dell laptop to a granddaughter and left it with her when I left, I needed something short term and bought an ACER Chromebook for $242 Canaadian , 180 US, just a toy people said. I love it , now on my 2nd.
My needs--Email, HH forum, Fbook and browsing the web--Its just fine,

Re: Buying a new laptop
I would avoid hua hin's pricey shopping malls and buy it online - much more choice and better prices.
Have used JIB before and the service and after sales is good. https://www.jib.co.th/web/product/product_list/1/24

Re: Buying a new laptop
I just bought a new printer from Banana Electronics at Market Village and paid the same price as JIB, so you need to check carefully
Re: Buying a new laptop
JIB has a store in market village. Another good online store is Advice Computer (advice.co. th). Advice also has a store in Hua Hin, corner of Soi 68, opposite Moo Wanna. If the online store has something you like you can check it out in store, if it's in stock.buksida wrote:I would avoid hua hin's pricey shopping malls and buy it online - much more choice and better prices.

If the price is the same I would buy from JIB. But that's just me. Never had a problem with JIB, or Advice.Dannie Boy wrote:I just bought a new printer from Banana Electronics at Market Village and paid the same price as JIB, so you need to check carefully
Re: Buying a new laptop
There is also Lazada obviously.
I personally can't stand shopping malls so make every effort to spend as little time in them as possible!

Others wax lyrical about InvadeIT, based in Hua Hin, but I think still only sell online. May be a bit more expensive than others.

I wouldn’t say that I’m a great fan of shopping malls, but unless you know exactly what you’re after, you can’t beat a bit of touch and feel, before you buy!!

Re: Buying a new laptop
Hi, Thanks for suggestions. As feedback, I bought a budget laptop today paying 10,990 BHT at JIB Market Village, An Acer Aspire A315-23
I compromised on the 8GB of RAM, I have 4GB but a slot too upgrade if needed later. The laptop seems OK and as a bonus I got a large grey backpack that's probably worth 600 baht or so.
Negatives at the moment, the budget laptops have plastic shells, I would have preferred aluminium but wasn't prepared to pay another 8,000 baht for this, I hope the two year warranty will cover any major issues here. In UK terms, i've paid 275 pounds (just found I've no pound sign on keyboard 555). I last bought a laptop for 300 pounds from John Lewis in 2013 and this one is probably a slightly higher performing laptop.
It came with Windows 10 and I managed to transfer Office through my Microsoft account. So in the end, no Shock Prices and I've ended up with a reasonable laptop at a fair price.

Re: Buying a new laptop
It is almost time to retire my current laptop (I know that will please the Forum's techy guys ). My needs are simple i.e. 8 Gb RAM, 1 Tb Storage and storage should be SDD. Outside of that, I'm fairly flexible, although I prefer the cost to be on the lower side. I've been looking at Lazada, and have been hitting statements such as used to be Brand New, Refurbished and 2nd hand. I obviously want new.
I'm looking for suggestions please - must be a laptop/notebook.
