This only applies to pre-paid Sim cards. If you have a post paid account, then they already have your details.

So what do I have to do to keep my pre-paid SIM-card working. I have had the same number for several years and would like to keep it. I don't mind register it, but where and how? My best guess is that someone in 3rd floor i MW could help, but thats just a guess.

It seems that you have six months to register after this comes into force and going to one of the service providers stores would be the easiest way to do it.

That was almost 3 years ago, I've been asleep since then - no idea.

Thinking about it, I only pre-pay for my Internet. My telephone is PAYG, so I guess it doesn't affect me :D

Still trying to get my head around this. PAYG is pre-paid - is that right?

Discussing with Thais at the moment, they say their ID card is sufficient because it shows address. Could this become another money making scheme for Immigration making those with no ID card have to get a proof of habitat letter?

I've got to renew my Internet package tomorrow, so I'll see what is required and report back.

Or do I just get my wife to register the sim in her name

OK thanks. I hope that as a foreigner my passport will suffice since I don't have any kind of Thai ID.

I registered by PAYG mobile a few months ago by showing my passport at the AIS counter at MV. They said this would mean that if I lost my phone (and SIM) I could go and get a replacement SIM and they would reallocate my number to the new SIM.
