Nothing could be further from the truth...
.. I'm very grateful for all your comments and suggestions.
Having been promised by the shop where I bought the computer that somebody would be here at 8.30 this morning, I've been waiting all day for the guy to arrive. Looks like I'll have to wait another day - oh, the joys of living in SE Asia!
I was hoping to be able to post later today how it got sorted out, but alas.......

I definitely will report back once they've taken a look at it.
Strangely enough, it hasn't crashed yet yesterday or today.
And there's one more symptom: now and again when I enter text with the keyboard, nothing happens immediately and there is a delay of a few seconds before the typed text appears on the screen. Could this also be a memory-related problem perhaps?

Yes, sounds like the guys who suggested swapping the RAM chips about were onto the right track.

Barrys do let us know how you get on with the shop guy.I hope you can replicate the fault while he's there, sometimes these things seem to deliberately disappear when you're trying to show someone. :)
Surprising that they send someone to your home, in other countries I've lived in it's 'bring it to us and we'll take a look'. Good luck!

First try http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/
If it's up, try your url again. If same error, try in different browser.

Working here at 9.30 am in Chrome, Firefox and Opera.

Are you using Windows 10?

First thoughts, if still not working, completely clear your browser cache (including cookies, etc.) and try again.

Or:
Reinstall Edge (do you use Edge?) it can screw with windows settings (save your favourites folder somewhere safe first)
Try a new browser too, Opera maybe.

Let us know if it's working.

Use Google or other search engine and look for Thai + language. It should appear in the results. Click the link

You do need to learn, as an average computer user, how to google for information. But meantime try these links:

https://www.wiknix.com/how-to-clear-cac ... e-browser/

http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/pages/view ... Id=3902928

Also download Chrome and try using that, as a fresh clean browser on your computer.
https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/d ... index.html

Also I asked if you actually use Internet Explorer or the newer Microsoft Edge, as Edge is a bit too integrated into the Windows 10 operating system code IMO, and definitely can cause problems. Do you know which you use?

You could read this article about Edge not connecting to some web pages, but I think if you're not tech-savvy you should probably not try the suggested actions. Maybe someone you know can tinker with it instead.

That's a shame. When something goes wrong, Windows 10 and Edge are a PIA for sure.

I hate to give up on computer problems!

Can I suggest you download and run a free VPN, and try once more? That will change the IP address you are connecting to the site from, might work, but clear the browser cache again before trying.

Is there a computer repair shop in hua hin that can change a forgotten password? I haven't used my laptop in 3 years, just decided to use it but can't open it.
