airline headphones

I cannot enjoy movies etc on the airlines as the sound is so poor, indistinct and as is evertbody is mummbling.
. Is this the fault of the headphones?? Does it improve if you buy and take on-boarda supperior pair??

I also hate it when they collect them early and you miss the end bit of the film. Anyone know of a reasonable ( not expensive) pair of headphones or an adapted plug and where to buy?

Can't say where to get them in Thailand, but the "Noise Cancelling" earphones I have are superb - make a huge difference/improvement to my travel in general...... and flying "Luggage Class" as I always do, it's an important factor!!

I have a pair of Bose noise cancelling headphones and they work great on the plane. Not cheap but come with the adapter so you can plug into the airplane two-pin phono-output.
I highly recommend them even just to get a quiet sleep on the plane (disconnected but noise-cancelling on).

^^^^^ I agree, I have a pair if these too, they are expensive but worth every penny.

I find that just using a pair of ordinary in-ear type works well at cutting out noise and improving the sound quaility but you need to find an adaptor for the twin plug although some airlines now have a normal stereo jack as well.

At the end of the day, you can buy the twin plug adaptors very cheaply online (or steal from Turkish Airlines ). I guess it's the same thing over again - you get what you pay for. Many airlines provide the in-ear type earphones these days and I'd agree they are superior to the normal ear/head-phones. Buying an adaptor or adaptors with a decent set of in-ear type earphones is a good idea, but for me I'll always go for the "Noise Cancelling" version - as has been said, not the cheapest option, but IMHO superb.

There is no argument that Bose are both top quality and top price. If you don't want to spend that kind of money you can get quite capable noise cancelling headphones from the leading electronic manufacturers. I have some Philips In ear type and also had a pair of Sony over ear type. Both work well at a fraction of the Bose price and both came with an adapt or for the airline twin plug setup.

I use in-ear noise cancelling earphones and they are brilliant. You can buy the two pin adapters at most airports, including Swampy at the IT shop, located ar the main hub before the food areas. Many airlines also have them for sale on their duty-free trolleys. Unfortunately on TG you can only buy them with the earphones.

I get mine from Corsair, a French airline we do third party maintenance for, the only problem is that they're rubbish and only last for a couple of flights.

I think what we're all saying is basically airline earphones are **** - this is why you are not hearing/understanding what the actors are saying - and if you are going to use your own earphones, get the "Noise Cancelling" ones. Top quality for both audio and a peaceful flight/journey.

However, as Steve has said, if you don't want to pay the money for the "Noise Cancelling" earphones, I'd suggest just buying an adaptor and using your own/decent set of earphones.

All the airlines I've flown in the last decade either have a normal headphone jack (same as smart phones) or will give you the 2 plug to 1 adapter if you ask for it. Then you keep it for future use as they never ask for it back.

I have several sets of the in ear noise cancelling headphones from $200 ones to $15 ones and they are great for airplane use.
