AIS International calls

Post by Gus »

Yesterday I used my 1/2G mobile to phone a landline in the UK from off the beach in Hua Hin using AIS international discount prefix 003.
Although the signal strength was good the line was unusable and I had to swop to the usual +44.
The problem was that my 003 prefix is 6 thb per min but the +44 is 18thb.

It could be for my next trip I phone from my room using wifi and say whatsapp but it will take some messing as it is either a landline or a similar 1/2 G mobile back home which I don't think are whatsapp compatible.

Any tips or advice most welcome. TIA.
ps: I have no objection to changing providers for my next holiday.

I use either Facebook Messenger, Line or Viber for free when calling International on a daily basis - excellent quality. It might be worth investing in a 3 or 4G phone - payback could be swift.

Yes, that's what I use when I need to phone e.g. my bank in the UK. Works well.

What's that bit about some new customers having to register for the system? Looks easy enough to do, but why?
