It's a big country with many regional and socio-economic differences. In Southern California, syrup was always on the side. In a Waffle House in Tennessee, I saw different.Big Boy wrote:So is that not the norm? Once bitten, twice shy - I've never ordered it since, The sausage actually looked more like Scottish sausage slices, which can be lovely, but smothered in syrup - an acquired taste, which i failed to achieve.

My favorite breakfast is this...
with a side of this...
Which can be had at any Denny's restaurant across America.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I'd never tried biscuits and gravy before today. After a lot of talk about said delight on this thread, I thought I'd whip myself up some this morning.
I've got to say it was f***ing horrible!

I don't eat breakfast, other than a cup of coffee, but I love the foods HHfarang showed so we do at dinner sometimes. In the states there are many restaurants that serve breakfast food all day long.

GLCQuantum, thanks for the chuckle.

Made me laugh too! But the mistake you made was in your choice of biscuits. Everyone knows that a cream filling and gravy doesn't go together!!

I've got say that even the genuine biscuits and gravy doesn't look the slightest bit appetising, it looks like a pair of scones that a baby has been sick on.

I have to admit that I'm quite partial to pancakes, with a couple of fried eggs on top and the whole smothered in maple syrup. Sounds disgusting I know, but tastes great!!

Yes from a British perspective, scones should be served with clotted cream and strawberry jam, or is that strawberry jam and clotted cream, depending on what side of the Tamar bridge that you live!STEVE G wrote:I've got say that even the genuine biscuits and gravy doesn't look the slightest bit appetising, it looks like a pair of scones that a baby has been sick on.

Here's an example of a typical "truck stop" menu. Cross country American truckers know how to eat! Pete

Good thing he didn't show SOS. SOS= shit on a shingle, or creamed beef on toast. Not as popular, but just as visually, well, stimulatingSTEVE G wrote:I've got say that even the genuine biscuits and gravy doesn't look the slightest bit appetising, it looks like a pair of scones that a baby has been sick on.
