I'm guessing tonic as in gin and tonic rather than Sanatogen? Maybe they've sold out too ("Son, times were hard back in those days. I lived through the great tonic famine of 2012") but there's a mom and pop store down the Khao Tao road that usually has a stash of Schweppes cans, which it flogs by the caseload. I hope I haven't depleted its entire stock though...

I had a friend look everywhere but they are all sold out.
You know how tonic started--when the British were in Asia, they had to drink quinine everyday as a Malaria preventative--it tastes like hell--so they added, gin, soda water and lemon to hide the tasteand thats how G & T became the drink of choice in the Empire.

The wholesalers down the Pala-U Rd say at least a month before any comes thru'..so whats the problem??
Many say Thailand's only machine up in BKK has broken..?
Some say it's all coming up from Malaysia..in dribs n drabs..?
One rumour said yes it's being produced in BKK, but all supplies are heading North to C.Mai..??

So what is the real reason..anyone really know..???

Well there you go then..............just get some malaria pills, dissolve in soda water, and then add some fresh lemon juice.....lol.

On a slightly different note.........it's a pity they don't sell bitter lemon here.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Never had a problem buying it anywhere in Thailand 7/11 all sell it so do most of the minimarts and bottle shops. Best thing also is all I have been able to get is Schweppes.
Nothing better than a large VAT looking out onto the beach in the afternoon

I have 5 cans left, but will drink them myself. Bought them yesterday at a small shop close to Suk Sabai 1 at Soi 102, and they still have.

Drive from Hua Hin south and take Soi 101, take right when you see police box at Khao Tao lake. After approx. 900m you have a little shop, she has what you looking for, I´m sure.

Sorry if I gave you false hope earlier. I'm not in Hua Hin right now, where, being the gutty gin pig I am, I stocked up on 24 cans just before I left ready for my next stay, so I'm feeling a tad guilty. Oh well, best get over it by a pouring a generous glass of Hendrick's and you know who...

[BTW, my lovely late father was allergic to quinine so although as a lad he loved his first G & T he got a serious reaction and couldn't ever touch tonic again (and went on to suffer several bouts of malaria, in Africa and Asia).]

There was a shortage over Xmas/New Year, some stores said it was due to the flooding in Bangkok.... but it seemed to come back into stock before I left. Managed to get some in a small grocer up near the top of Soi 88 on the right hand side. Also opposite the Golf Shop on the main Petchkasem Road, a small Thai grocer had some. I also heard people were driving down to the Makro in Pranburi. But I didn't go there myself.

So I have a dilemma, either being thirsty or piling some pills of quinine and mix'm with soda water. :D

Right! But I got another idea. One finger (I mean horizontal...) blue Hawaii shaved ice, a finger of lime juice, another finger of gin, then ice cubes according to your taste and soda water.

That's not bad and allow to wait for the next delivery of tonic

Went to a shop 1st thing this morning..only had tins of soda water (that had a mis-leading yellow band across the tin)..the man in the store was quite chatty and told us that it is the machine that makes the actual tins at 'Sheweppies' that has suffered badly from flood damage.. that is the root of the shortage according to him..he again told us 1 more month...??
