Re: Indian Restaurants
Agree Dannie Boy. Off the top of my head the dish was 180 bht, I'd happily pay more to get a decent portion of meat in there.
I may just had a word with the owner next time and ask him to up the portion and adjust the cost accordingly, he's a really nice bloke and I'm sure he'll be happy to oblige.

Re: Indian Restaurants
So, after walking past it almost every day for 9 months, i decided to give the Indian at the top of soi 80 a try. I thought...it was ok! Maybe i expected too much after reading all the reviews of it on here. I thought the sides were better then the main Chicken Tikka.
It was only me and a friend in the whole place at 7.15pm last night (Friday). So maybe its starting to go down a little in quality!?
There was a little bit of an argument between my (Thai) friend and the Indian lady when it was discovered they had no change for my 1000 Baht note (bill was 350B). There was a bit of a stalemate (what can you do?!) until the man in the kitchen came out and exchanged it at one of the bars.
I will probably try the one on Soi 94 when i next fancy a Indian before returning to this one.

Re: Indian Restaurants
My personal opinion is that I don't really like their chicken dishes but absolutely love their lamb/mutton/goat (whatever they use) dishes. If you go again, I recommend you try the lamb dishes - it might change your mind.

Re: Indian Restaurants
Also, if you see a chicken dish on the menu that you like but it is not offered with lamb or mutton, you can ask and they will substitute mutton for the same price. I've done that several times.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Went back to Shiva today only because the take out time from S&S was 1 hour plus, they are frantically busy at this time of year.Dannie Boy wrote:We all know that Lamb is fairly expensive in Thailand, so you would expect them to price their lamb dish's accordingly and give a reasonable portion, to avoid spoiling what would otherwise be an excellent meal.Henry 14th wrote:Went today again after a long break and the reasons for my beak have again been confirmed.Pagey wrote:It's called Shiva Ayurveda and they also do yoga and meditation. You can google it to see the menu.
The food is very good, as are the surroundings and service, however I have a big problem with ordering a lamb dish and only enjoying 2 medium chunks of lamb in the middle of sauce.
It's a shame that the meat content is so limited because the sauces in all the meals I've ordered are leagues above the other Indian serving restaurants here in HH.
Top of the value for money and consistency tables remains S&S for me, and that is by along way.

Anyway, I was greeted by the boss and had to tell him about my previous experiences of low meat content. He's a lovely guy, apologised and was grateful for my comments/complaint.
I was promised 8 prices of lamb from now on and the dish I ate was great. Same sauce, more lamb.
On this type of form Shiva does offer a higher quality of cooking than the others in HH. Surroundings to boot it is IMO the best in town.

Thanks for the info.I will give it a try when I return.properperson wrote:blue05 wrote:the Royal in town is the closest I have come to UK curry stylestu7 wrote:As I said in my introduction I spend a few months every year in HH. I will be returning soon.I have tried a few Indian places but sadly the consistency of the food and service is not that good, a lot of the dishes all taste the same,
However last time I was there I found some really good British style curries in HH Ham and Bacon Co.Can anyone tell if they are still stocking them as i have looked on their site but can not find them. hope they are because they were probably the best I have tasted here.
Cheers
Which soi is "The Royal" in ??
I like to keep a few curries in the freezer for late night munchies so I find the HH Ham and Bacon ones ideal. Really tasty British style curries and large portions. The naan bread is good also

Shiva is excellent, and benefits from a great location as well as great food.
Have to say though, Mr S, that most of the questions you're asking can be answered by having a look round the forum and/or using the search function.
